Nashville getting burnt on a trade is probably a better example to other GM's of how to not operate at the deadline, as opposed to how much someone will overpay.

Ask for a first, get a second and a project prospect

Very much a possibility and I wouldn't care if they added a lesser prospect to the deal but I wouldn't be to keen on losing a first for Phillips. As you said he's likely a bottom pairing guy at this point that could be put into a top four role if needed.

A lot of Sens fans would be happy to see him out of the lineup in whatever way possible, so getting a first for someone like that seems illogical. But it's the trade deadline so anything can happen. Would almost be a case of improving the team AND getting a draft pick at the same time.

He would be a real good depth defenseman in the playoffs though. Not a top 4 on anyone that's a contender unfortunately.

Prices are so steep. I'd hate to be a GM lately during the last 2 trade deadlines.
For those who don't think a late first or 2nd round pick has a ton of value...

The entire Bruins top six, excluding Iginla, was picked in the 2nd or 3rd round.
You can get guys in later rounds, just don't be the guy who trades away the pick that turns into a household name!

There no way we are getting a 1st out of phillips, maybe a 2nd round pick, Then at the draft we can package both second round picks and get a first. Mind you some GMs are sorta desperate, and no team says no to generosity, god i hope some stupid GM offers a first for phillips.

Typically though only 20-30% of the 2nd & 3rd round picks have NHL careers, the percentage that play on scoring lines is significantly less than that. The fact that the Bruins have a bunch of guys are contributing it is confirmation bias, as you are only seeing the guys who did make it. It does say a lot though for the Bruins scouting and developing!

With all the people out there, I can't see Phillips getting a 1st unless a team like Minnesota or LA gets burned by the trade deals and decides to just try and add for their playoff push.

Once a real trade that only involves 1 player for multiple or single assets , we will be able to get a feel for this years trade market.

Personally I don't think philips is worth more then a ssecond or a third and a boom or bust type prospect

Now just curious from Hfboards followers, if push came to shove, what would your absolute best offer be for Phillips?

I know there are quite a few teams right now with cup aspirations
Yeah, I asked for Miranda Kerr for Christmas. That didn't work out well either as my expectations were far beyond reality.

Weaver netted a 5th, can't see anyone giving a 1st for Phillips. Of course he's better and totally worth a 2nd pick, but a 1st might be reaching too much.

C'mon guys!

Former 1st OVERALL Chris Phillips.

All we want is something in the 2-29 range...

If Phillips hauls in a 1st, Shero needs to trade Orpik yesterday.

imho Contenders would gladly pay a 2014 late first for Phillips. If just a second, or conditional picks, all the better.

Look at the return Douglas Murray gathered.

That's one way to guarantee he won't get traded.

I'm skeptical about Murray actually wanting to trade Phillips. Seems like he's set the price artificially high to scare off some interest, but if some team gets desperate he gets a deal he can't refuse.

A few years ago, it would have been reasonable, but at this stage of his career, Ottawa should just re-sign Phillips if Murray thinks he'll get any more than a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Ummm ya

If he was so solid, a poor defensive team (like hmmmmm the Sens) would be extending him.
