Leafs can't make a trade like this. We're up against the cap so we need to send out the same cash that comes in. We're stuck making hockey trades, which is tough...

Decent, not astounding like everyone's making it out to be. Had he been healthy and got traded two years ago for a 4th, my jaw'd be on the floor. Right now, it's a so-so deal.

Vatanen must be so happy now. First Ducks tell him he can get an apartment in Anaheim, then send him to minors for cap/roster issues, with expectations of returning after the trade deadline and now this... I hope Kekäläinen is paying attention to his situation.

He's old, can no longer play his physical game, can no longer produce offense, and is coming off of a major injury.

A 4th is all that he could reasonably garner. He's a depth defenseman now.

Essentially Penner for Robi that's pretty fair

Great deal for the Ducks. Why didn't the Stars just keep him?

I'm shocked people rated Robidas so highly. I would of only expected a 2nd or 3rd healthy. Coming off an injury a 4th seems appropriate.

I have been saying the Leafs should try to get this guy for over a year and would have been happy for them to give a 4th for him.

But I still think it is a fair price. Robi is 37 and is still out with a pretty serious injury. He could have a setback in his recovery or just struggle to play at the same level because of the injury or just being out for so long. There is a lot of risk here so a 4th seems pretty fair because of that.

NHL.com trade tracker says the 4th round pick is conditional.

So, basically Ducks got rugged veteran defenseman with leadership skills for IOU.

Who negotiated this trade for them should get a hefty bonus.

Conditional in that it could become a 3rd.

The draft pick could turn into a third-rounder if Robidas plays 50 percent of the Ducks' playoff games and the team reaches the Western Conference finals.

Surprised that is the return. Thought Dallas could get more. Should be a good fit once he gets healthy.

Still could come up tomorrow and be part of the rotation. All year BB has had a rotation among the forwards, bigger guys in against teams like LA and St Louis, smaller guys in against more fast and skilled teams. Could possibly see that with Vatanen, Sbisa, Allen and Robidas. Would be a very interesting approach.

Many people thought Cory Conacher for Ben Bishop was a horrible trade for Tampa Bay too because he put up some points playing with MSL. Now look at it.

The Stars aren't losing anything here. If Robidas is healthy he probably gets a 2nd. He wasn't, so he didn't.

Not bad, this could work out really well for us. Low risk, possible high reward.

Doesn't this mean he is healthy?

I thought you couldn't trade injured players.

So right now it's Washington's 4th, but it could turn into our 3rd if the conditions are met? Am I understanding that right?

I read that it was your 4th coming back from the Perrault trade...not Washington's.

Now this is a good trade for the Ducks. Getting a veteran blueliner for a 4th round pick just hope he plays well coming back from injury.
