Kind of surprised that Florida gave up on Markstrom.

Huge difference between Roberto Luongo's value and Ryan Kesler's.

For an untradeable goalie. A guy which Vancouver would be stuck for eternity. At least, it was what some dudes from Toronto were preaching everyday. Now?

Vancouver from 2 starters to 2 prospects in less than 12 months? Hey...it's the new NHL

Just don't see how this works for Florida.
Uhh... what? You serious?

Tim Thomas is 39 years old. Roberto Luongo is 34 years old. That's a huge difference. Thomas is around the age if a retiring player. Roberto still has a good four or five years left in him.

Does Luongo get flipped? What the heck are you thinking?! Florida just traded what they believe is a bust in their future goaltending. They didn't trade that to run a 40 year old goalie next season. They traded for Luongo so that he buys them roughly five years, if they're lucky, to fix (what they believe) was a broken goaltending prospect pool.

Whether or not you think Markstrom is a dud is the only way you can answer whether or not this works for Florida.

Kesler is going to get the Canucks a big fat overpayment. No real overrating by Canucks on Kesler. Edler is a different story tho imo.

No kidding. Markstrom had a few rough years, but he is very promising. I actually like this a lot for the Canucks. Luongo is much happier, and the controversy is over. Now the Canuck fans just have to deal with a few rough years.

Lack is already a really good goalie. I like what we have, not too worried right now with our goaltending.

Happy my friend came through, Saw this coming early.
He did get traded for nothing!

Wasn't meant as criticism, just liked your reaction in contrast to some of the other strong responses in the thread.

Wasn't a massive return, but given that some had declared him more or less untradeable, I think Vancouver fans should be pleased enough with the return and relieved the controversy can finally be buried.

The thing is.. Nucks fans aren't worried about our goaltending. We're worried about scoring goals. Goaltending is fine.

When you're in Florida's situation, then you have given up on Markstrom. Rebuilding teams don't trade their 'top prospect' in the net unless you have given up on him.

He has played 25 games in the NHL.

Nobody knows if Lack is a really good goalie yet.

We will soon find out though.

Very surprised to hear about this trade...I hope Luongo can bring success to FLA and they make a push next year. I have family near Sunrise and attended a few games , including playoffs, in their beautiful arena(watched Lou when he was there the 1st time) so I would love to see them do well.

I agree the Nucks got a really good return for a really bad contract. Markstrom has elite tools. If he learns proper positioning you are looking at an elite goaltender going into the future.

On matthias:
Great hustle defensively, and he sure has the ability to dangle (nickname since his time in juniors is danger). I always had hope for him grabbing a top 6 C role, but in reality he is just too inconsistant. He will amaze you at times and make you believe he's the solution to your problems. But then there wil be stretches of 10-20 games where you dont even see him.

Markström however, Ive always been a fan of his and have always defended him when things have gone bad for him. He's skilled for sure, and has the potential to become great. I sincerely hope he turns out great for vancouver, but im not betting any money on it

This trade depends on whether or not Markstrom pans out.

As a canuck fan this just reeks of Florida dumping their garbage on us like Ballard and Booth.

Not sure how the canucks brass hasn't figured out that if Florida is willing to trade us a player its probably because they know there isn't much future in that player.

That said, luongo's value is very low due to his contract so it's at least something for him. Would have like to see a second come back

I honestly doubt it. Luongo could not carry the Canucks, no way he can carry the Panthers. Panthers have a long way to go.

Possibly Gillis is just a sucker but there isn't much risk in this trade for the Canucks. They gave up a albatross contract for a servicable 3rd liner and at worse a bad back up. As of right now, it is win-win. I see Canucks winning this in the long run.
