Ya because it's really easy to trade $12 mil in 2 players with no movement clauses, one of whom is out for the next month.

Gotta love these threads.

The critics claimed Vancouver should rebuild before they turn into Calgary

Now Vancouver has started rebuilding and people are pretending they're dumb for not having elite goaltending?

You could say the Schneider trade was bad (wait to see what Horvat becomes) but this Luongo trade IMO is a gem. The only worry now is the recapture, other than that they are ok.

Cause no contender wanted that contract. You don't think the canucks tried for two years. Plus his wife hated vancouver and lived in florida a lot of times, so luongo never got to see his kids much. Now, he can retire in florida and be happy with his family.

Nobody said Matthias is a top-six forward - he's not - but he's a good third liner. Kassian is coming into his own and absolutely projecting to be a good NHLer. He may well hit 20 goals this year (given his improved play of late), and he's still very raw. Watch some games and get back to me. Aside from Kesler, he's been the Canucks best forward over the past 20 games.
Actually, one of the Canucks fans posted a message saying that Matthias was a #2C.

I watch plenty of hockey, thanks. Kassian is fine, but I still think he is not a top 6 forward on a good team. Being the second best forward on the Canucks over their last 20 games isn't going to clinch it for me.

Would have been the other way around. Everyone said Canucks weren't going to get any value for that contract. It's pretty obvious that no realistic fan would have expected much from Lu.

According to all Canucks Haters Luongo was the best goalie in the world. Funny to see all the haters come out. Lack has outplayed Lu all year and is just a rookie. Getting rid of that contract is only a good thing for Vancouver.

I also think that Markstrom can turn it around. Nucks have been a goalie factory

Looks like the Canucks have thrown in the towel for this season. Good trade for both sides though. Florida gets solid goaltending for the next 4-5 seasons, Vancouver gets a potential starter and potential 3rd line C.

I was ready to move Luongo for a 2nd or whatever we could get back.

A lot of us were, and no one expected value. I DIDN'T expect Markstrom

Great deal for Vancouver.
Yes but there's also fans of other teams thinking Gillis didn't get enough... which really surprises me...

Like this year.

They should plan to stink for the next couple more, while working more trades for more picks. If you're gonna blow it up and start over, do it right.

I didn't say they were going about this the right way, though. Just that, now, it looks like they're going to (rebuild/re-tool). Not to mention, I don't think ANYONE (especially Gillis) saw the Sedins falling off a cliff. From the moment they signed their new deal, they've been hot garbage (especially Daniel).

They should have been fine with him being traded for a smaller return by this point--

oh, wait.

thanks! Happy for Luongo, happy for hockey fans who can put these Vancouver controversies behind us...at least for now.

They started the rebuild with big long contract extensions to the almost 34-year old twins and Tortorella behind the bench?

The point is that Gillis didn't have a coherent plan. That is going to make any rebuilding more difficult and painful.

Considering how Lack turned it around after his god-awful, injury-filled AHL season, there is hope in this regard. But again, no panic for the guy to succeed asap, because the Canucks won't.

We'll I'm in shock Luongo even got traded at all I didn't think this was possible

But seriously over the period you'll get better value from Luongo than the Sedins

Maybe Pit would roll the dice? With the cap going up?
