No way he makes it to UFA. Regardless, can you see Gillis handing out another big money big term contract to a goalie?

Gillis needs to set a honey trap on Schneider, get him to sign a deal with the Canucks so we can trade him again!

In all seriousness, if Markstrom pans out, we have yet another goaltender situation in hand - which isn't a bad thing assuming we can pawn him off for more assets.

Been a crazy day of packing but super excited to be a part of the Vancouver organization, only heard great things about Van!
Not sure if he's aware of how Vancouver treats their goalies but..

Pretty sure he's just saying it to make a positive impression.

It's unlikely he'll say "Ah ****, I am now part of an organization that turned its personnel decisions into a complete media gongshow, FML."

Between Lack, Markstrom and Eriksson I'm confident that our goaltending will continue to be a strength for the foreseeable future.

Great that we now have all the Swedish goalies!

Should have seen this coming. A chance to tap our Florida and Byrnas pipelines at the same time?

VERY happy with this move. IMO Lack has been outplaying Lu. Markstrom is still a top goalie prospect - he's still young and lots of goalies have floundered early before finding success on better teams. Melanson and an established defensive corps will be good for Markstrom.

Is Markstrom waiver exempt? If not, can the Canucks leave him in the AHL?

Markstrom is tall and athletic. He has trouble with rebound control at times. FL did no favors for him vis a vis his development by not assigning him a goaltending coach and placing garbage teams in front of him for much of his NHL time. Two years ago he stole games for us. This year he lost games for us. But he has rebuilt his confidence in the AHL this year.

Vancouver has good success with developing young goaltenders. I hope he does amazing for you guys.

Good luck, Jacob Markstrom.

Maybe we'll get lucky and a season from now we can see this whole situation as a positive because of the play of Lack and Markstrom.

Or maybe, it will be typical Canuck luck and we are doomed for the next decade.

I thought one of the reasons why the Panthers weren't all that keen on trading for Luongo for the past couple of years was Markstrom. I admit I haven't seen, only heard things, but it makes me paranoid when all of a sudden we get this player who used to be a top prospect for a player who was untradeable. Clearly, the Panthers organization didn't have much faith in Markstrom....maybe they don't like his mental make up or attitude I don't know.

He seems like a project, but I don't hold out much hope for him turning into anything.
