Weird, but it's not like he's that special of a player though. Never has been.

Tough time to move him for the Habs... he's in such a slump, but still represents so much of what the Habs need themselves, if he can just get back on track.

But it also makes it hard for them to sign him in the summer, probably... he already had his bridge deal. But has failed to progress beyond it. So the Habs don't really have much justification for pursuing the longer term $4M-ish per deal I think we were envisaging earlier this season. But at the same time, he probably won't want another bridge deal at similar value to his current one, which is about all he has earned. So a trade makes some sense in that respect as well.

I think it has to be for a similar/better player, though. Habs can't take quantity or picks/prospects for him.

Eller has something like 4 pts in 35 games. Don't believe habs fans who put the blame on Therrien. Only time he's been decent was when playing with Gallagher and Galchenyuk.

He's so similar to Berglund, in that he has to be with quality linemates to be successful, but even his version of success is not good enough for the 2nd line role which he'd have to be in to play with those quality linemates.

Bourque has something like that many points in three years and he's glued to Eller's hip at the moment.

He was great with the Gally's but guess who had the genius idea to split that line up?

Not putting all the blame on therrien, but look at the guys he is playing with, Bourque,Bournival,Briere,Moen. No one can produce at a high clip playing with guys like that.

You realize Winnipeg has to accept the deal right? Meaning we can't mold our spare parts with one solid player.

He was when he was playing galchenyuk and galagher, but are phenomenal coach decided that he had to get his boy davey to start producing so he took galagher off the line.

Eller was on pace for 55 or so points without PP time last year while being a beast defensively. That's not good enough to be a second line center?

If they're going for young and big, isn't Eller pretty much what they're asking for?

EDIT: nvm, just saw his point totals

Lars Eller is already the perfect 3rd line center and he is only 24 years old. He is great defensively, hits, good on the PK, and good on faceoffs. He has some untapped potential, he is playing on a defensive team and never got any PP time. He is a player 29 teams would like to have I am sure, and Bergevin would be incredibly stupid to trade him when his value is so low.

What happened to Eller this year? He was tearing it up the first 10 or so games
The short answer is Michel Therrien.

The long answer is that with DD, Plekanec, Eller, Galchenyuk, White, etc there are too many centers. Eller has been consistently shifted to the wing and he simply isn't good for the wing.

Well, when you're playing with the worst offensively/defensively challenged players in the NHL, and your coach doesnt help you regain confidence like he did with a midget center, and in a system that suffocates offence (all the players (or almost) on the team have seen their career ppg avg trending down), of course it happens.

it almost seems like Lars stopped trying somewhere along the way

i dont blame him, therrien is a sucka
