Conacher will wear #88, rather than the #89 he wore with Ottawa and Tampa. Sabres planning on retiring #89 for Mogilny, perhaps?

If so it is likely the legacy of LaFontaine's presidency.

That sounds about right. The Sabres have wasted plenty of time on players like this in the past.

But at the end of the day, they're just trying to fill out a transitional roster with some experienced players. No harm, no foul.

Doesn't seem to different than Gerbe, or Omark (in level of production anyway). From what I've seen, he's done well sharing a line with good players and not so well without them. I was a little surprised they picked him up because he seems to be the type of solid third liner they have in spades.

Doesn't hurt I guess, and hoping for the best.

Sabres want Canisius product Cory Conacher to help establish new culture

Quote:
BUFFALO – Cory Conacher woke up early Wednesday morning knowing he’d have a new team by noon. The ensuing hours weren’t easy. The 24-year-old winger said he experienced a mix of excitement and sickness passing through waivers.

Finally, late in the morning, the Canisius College product found out the rebuilding Sabres had claimed him from the Ottawa Senators.

“I’m very excited,” Conacher told the Times Herald by phone Wednesday afternoon. “It was a long 24 hours, but luckily it worked out in my best interest.”

Conacher said the Sabres were “near the top of the list” of teams he wanted to join. He expects to meet them Friday in Florida because of immigration work.

Conacher's favourite player is Ennis..wonder if Ennis will ask him to crash at his place while he sorts his things out.

Or Conacher may fall in love...

Maybe Conacher can crash with Ennis or Girgensons and show them how to take their Christmas trees down.

I really wanted to see him play tonight against his former team. Getting CC for free might be the best move Murray made yesterday. I think he will end up as a steady ~40-45 point guy and he is only 24. Getting him for free is a major coup. Don't know what Ottawa was thinking especially since they dealt a very good #1 goalie to get him.

Should be a lot of conacher fans at sundays game. I know I'm driving from Barrie ontario... Bunch of the other family is driving from his hometown.

I remember going to games when he was on the sens, in buffalo, and the you guys seemed to like him, guess playing at canisus helps..

I guess I'm one of "you guys" now too. haha

The Murray General Manager's Philosophy excludes consideration of assets that were given when evaluating what to do with assets that were received. Bishop's development would have played no role in Bryan Murray's decision to waive Conacher. I expect to see the same kind of decision making process from Tim Murray. It's much different than what we saw with Regier who would hold onto players hoping they would work out.
