I'm guessing Columbus knew they had very little chance to resign him, so moved him for whatever value they could.

They still made the playoffs, so better that they got Frattin, a 2nd, a 3rd, and a playoff appearance instead of holding onto Gaborik and losing him for nothing.

Trading for him in the first place was the bad move.

Some rebuilding team should sign Gaborik and Hemsky for $6M/yr each, wrap them in bubbles and re-open them right before the trade deadline. Should be able to fetch a 2nd each.

Lombardi has both a city and a team players want to go to, which allows him to play hardball.

On top of that, NMC/NTC usually gives GM's the ability to get closer to the cap hit/term they want.

He was signed in late August coming off of a near career-ending concussion after being rejected by multiple teams and selecting the Kings because they gave him a 2 year term... so no.

Actually for UFAs, every UFA that wasn't already a King, we haven't had that great of success...then again, we don't go after most of those guys anymore...we did before Jeff Carter got to LA. Every UFA that was already on the Kings re-signed except for old man Scuderi.

...so for this team, 0...but we've gone after 0.

Remember when the Oiler fans were trying to say that Scrivens was the best acquisition of the deadline? Hahahaha

Thank god none of the "high profile" UFA have signed in LA look ts the amazing team we have all on home grown and some great trades this is what a great GM could get you. He knows when to walk away from UFA when the money gets to high or when NTC/NMC get tossed around. In Dean we trust!!!!!

They have a great team, great coach, and great GM. They won't have trouble signing any UFA they target.
