Good price for Diaz. He's a solid defenseman. Ideally on the third pairing but definitely capable of top 4 duty.

Hah. Van claimed Weise off waivers from NYR - then traded him to montreal for Diaz. Then Diaz to NYR for a 5th Essentially a free 5th.

Weise was a free asset (waivers), the Canucks acquired Diaz for Weise when they were extremely banged up on the back-end. Guys are healthy now, thus they turned a free asset into a 5th.

I might be clutching at straws here, but this does open up a contract spot...

If he ever sees the ice, that is. We have Girardi, Klein and Stralman as our 3 RHD

Gillis is a god with 5th round picks. This is equivalent to a first or second guys.
Who is the next 5th round stud? First Corrado, then Hutton and next season it'll be even better.
Totally.

Wow. Now there is a lot of righthanded defensemen. I guess Sather wanted really good defense depth since the Bickell failure in previous playoffs.

Dammit, I liked Diaz, I liked the fact we got him for absolutely nothing. Having a PMD in the bottom of the defensive depth chart would have been excellent, now he's a draft pick...

oh well.

Allen and McIlrath are still not NHL players, Falk was terrible so far.
Make sense. 5th is little too much for the backup, but nothing tragic

My friend and I were recently talking about how we weren't comfortable with Falk as a 7th guy, good move IMO.

Not happy with that return. A fifth for a 6/7 guy is fine, but I had higher hopes for Diaz. I'm guessing he isn't a Torts kind of guy...

Diaz looked solid with the Canucks, don't really get why they moved him. Vancouver pretty much ends up trading Weise for a fifth rounder.

Diaz is underrated. Not the guy who will punish forwards in front of the net, but he's an efficient player.
