Kozlov Coming Back?

From Today's NY Post as it appears the Devils will be $2 million over the salary cap if they sign all their restricted free agents.

(There has been speculation that failing another remedy, Kozlov might be dealt back to Florida, if he doesn't decide to play in Russia.)

Anyone think with the new rule changes Kozlov could be a 50-60 point guy?

Kozlov is among just a handful of elite passers in the league. He'll have 50-60 points in assists alone.

Kozlov-Mogilny on the same line might be nice.. If either of them would be happy to shoot =) Mogilny would pass up the puck on an empty net even if it meant he scored 500th goal or 50th goal of the season on that goal.

Kozlov was a 50-60 point guy under the old rules, when healthy. The knock on Kozlov is he's got a ton of talent, is big, and has the ability to be a top center in the league, but doesn't play hard enough.

I can't get over the one season where he was challenged and responded for a whole 3 games, and was dominant. Think it was 02-03, sometime in winter. He has the size and talent to be a rival to Forsberg, but simply doesn't have the drive.

Think of the waste - top 5 stickhandler in the league, one of the few players to register over 100 miles an hour slapshot in the NHL All-Star skills competition, also tied Ray Bourque in the accuracy shooting contest, is 6'5" and 220 or so...good skater, great passer...

But, all together...he sucks. Just won't try hard enough.

I would like to see him back. I think Martin could get him to finally shoot the puck.

What the heck, bring him back. It's not like we have a lot of options available to us at this point.

There's always room for another player we can make wisecracks about.

He'd be the only non-geriatric in need of a walker to make it up and down the ice. Damn stubbed toe.

I think we'll keep him. Project players like Kozlov are Robinson's favorite.

Don't forget his nasty wrist shot...that we rarely got to see

I recall in one panthers/flyers game that one flyers fan was so irate that kozlov didn't shoot that he yelled "shoot the damn thing next time." Horton gave a wry smile and looked back at this fan. Shows you how much this guy didn't like firing the puck that even the opposing teams fans called him out on it.

Did Horton even get to play with Koz? Or was that some weird Freudian slip?

I'd only want him back if Jokinen started struggling badly without him......but other than that, the fans/coaches still treat him like a prospect regardless of his age. It doesn't seem like he'll ever realize his potential, and IMO, our kids would be better off learning from established (consistent) NHLers. Kozlov is very injury prone for a guy his size, disappears too often and doesn't bring enough of the other intangibles to compensate IMO.

Nate definitely played with Kozlov. I think that was the game that Val Bure won in OT.

I know, it was a shot at the injury problems of both.

Kozlov was one of my favorite Panther players, and the one that frustrated me the most. He has one of the best shots in the league, and it was always frustrating cause he never used it. He would play hold the puck to long, and seemed like he was never confident in his shot. I would welcome him back cause I would love to see what Martin could do with him.

What if you had to take Kozlov to get Langenbrunner back with Nieuwendyk?

Well, since Mogilny was signed by NJ, and they likely need to clear some cap space, it was only fitting to revisit this thread.

So, who's ready to welcome Kozzie back into the fold?
