Unlikely... we just don't value Neuvy highly enough to keep him. I'm assuming we are clearing up cap space for some draft day moves? Maybe free agency?

They turned a toxic asset into a few picks, a small time prospect, and a goalie the team values. I doubt we're able to resign him but whatever. On top of that we've got enough money to sign Kuznetsov this week and whoever's in charge next year can make a splash.

Honestly, if this is GMGM's last hurrah he set the next guy up pretty well.

I know they're rebuilding but Halak's not exactly old and he's better than Neuvirth so why didn't they just keep Halak?

you dont want a golie that has the potential to stand on his head when you are trying to tank.

Why would the rebuilding Sabres give up a 3rd rounder in 2015 and ad a UFA D-man? I don't get it. What am I missing here?

Who could remember when OV got pwned by Halak? Well now that they're teammates wonder how they'll get along lol.

Good luck to Halak. He was a fine goalie for the Blues. Unfortunately we never got to see him give a full playoff run when he was here. Hope he does well and gets a shot in the playoffs.

Ovie had 5 goals and 5 assists in that series. Semin was the one Halak 'pwned'.

Well, still, I'm sure those goals were because of Price. As a Leafs fan, I hated Halak that way. Now that he's with Washington I don't hate him anymore lol. And the reason Ovie got the scoring was because I'm sure he was a heavy scorer at that time. If it was on Price he would've absolutely swept the Habs.

It is all based on term. They pay 3rd/salary dump because Neuvirth
is signed for $2.5M for next year while Halak is a UFA. Gives the team a chance to test drive a goalie and either sign or shop next spring. Also helps reach cap floor. The rationale is sound, the value ????

It's unlikely as of now the Caps resign Halak. Halak isn't a tremendous upgrade over what they're working with, if they let him go they have even more cap space to resign players like Grabovski and potentially Penner and lure in some decent d-men.

Halak is a UFA this summer, and I would guess unlikely to resign in Buffalo.

Reto Berra got a 2nd, Neuvirth is worth more than that. And I can just about guarantee the Caps don't resign Halak.

Sabres don't want to call up any of their young D-men (wasting years or exposing them to our little tire fire ).

I would say Berra has more value than Neuvirth, and Berra wasn't demanding a trade, either.

Are you serious? A 27 year old pending UFA with an .897 Sv% is worth more than a 25 year old with a career .910 Sv% who's been the starting goalie on a Caps team that finished first in the East and won a playoff series, and is signed through next season? Literally the only thing Berra has on Neuvirth is size.

I've always thought Neuvirth was a solid backup, nothing more.

Also, I think goalies always get too much credit and too much blame for the defense in front of them. Washington's is piss poor overall.

He's been the starter before on a contending team that wasn't great defensively, and he did it at 22 years old. His main issue is durability.
