Glad that this brings a close to the "JAM is a legit prospect!!!" discussion on this board.

Dalton Smith could replace Boll, but Kekkalainen preferred to renew Boll's contract at crazy amount.

I'm a Blues fan and a CBJ fan, but I only recently started following the Jackets. I used to be a diehard Blues fan growing up and only recently have gotten back into hockey.

I started watching the Jackets when they went on the 8-0 streak without Gaborik. Since Gab has gotten back, he doesn't seem like he's made a difference and doesn't seem like his heart was in it. Maybe he has some chemistry with Anissmov, but I think it was decent trade.

What's the deal with this trade though? Is this a positive for the Jackets?

JAM is the leading scorer for Springy, so it's a big trade for the Falcons. They brought in some offense with the trade for Camper and now Tyrell but neither are scoring at the same clip as JAM.

But I wonder if signing TJ Tynan will happen in the near future and he fulfulls the required tiny forward quotient.

Dalton Smith is no loss. He was never going to replace Boll unless he could provide an energy roll as well, and his skating is no where near what it needs to be to make the NHL in that roll.

Tynan won't get signed. He's regressed every year since he's been drafted. Literally, he's de-improving.

Pretty unimpressive trade day. So much for JK's unlimited wizardry.

I always liked Tyrell, he got some sick speed and is worth a chance.

Taormina is the best the Crunch had on the blueline as far as a quarterback is concerned. Don't expect him to aggressively clear the crease and he will be fine. Tyrell is a decent AHL forward who should be able to fill in as needed with the Jackets.
Liking the trade from a stand point of the Crunch, although it does leave a huge gap at the point on the powerplay. JAM's offense should make up for this, so it looks to be a wash at this point. Smith brings toughness that the Crunch are lacking this year, with Neilson being injured and Labrie still getting used to the additional ice time since being sent down.

I like this move just for the acquiring of Tyrell. Definitely an upgrade over Marchessault in my estimation. Probably won't matter but as said above, Tyrell was worth a chance to acquire.

If you're just looking at stats, ND isn't the offensive powerhouse they were Tynan's freshman year. He has led the Irish in scoring for 3 of his 4 seasons, yet he's never matched his freshman stats.

Has he elevated his game to the level Atkinson did to suggest he can make it to the NHL as such a small player? Probably not. But could he replace JAM in Springy? Yes. He'll be signed somewhere. The Jackets have his rights until August, so if he signs an ATO once ND's season is over it will be with Springfield.

Tyrell is a Jarmo type of player ... a tireless workhorse who has some good vision and offensive skill. A former first round pick for Tampa Bay ... I recall him being a standout player as a 17 year old on a ridiculously talented (and underachieving) Prince George team. Unfortunately, things just haven't worked out as planned for him. Should be a guy that can fill in on the big club if injuries start to mount ... similar to Craig or Bass.

Taormina is a decent depth defenseman, nothing more ... probably not in our top-11 overall.

In that 2010 draft, it appears we will only get two players out of it, Johansen and Prout. Four of our picks were unsigned/traded (Smith(2nd), Straka(2nd), Corbeil (4th), and Archibald(5th). Prout was a 6th, and the only other guy in that class is Austin Madaisky, an ECHL defenseman and Martin Oullette, who is unsigned right now and given our goalie depth, probably won't be signed. Yikes

Typically 23 players on a roster, ranging in age from 20-40 ...

Take two players from every draft, have them make the team ... over the course of 20 years, that's 40 players. Get a guy (Johansen) who becomes a top-6 forward at only 20 years old, and I think you have to consider that draft at least a partial win, even without the other guy making the cut.

I'm not saying we were gangbusters at the 2010 draft ... but, there are certainly worse things than coming away with two decent players. The can't all be wins

That's still arguably an extremely successful draft.

(I also think Madaisky is suffering from a numbers game, but, well, I've proven before that my ability to independently evaluate prospect defensemen is erratic at best. See: TRuth, Plekhanov, Regner... )

It's a longshot for any player drafted after the 2nd round to make the NHL. At least 7 of the 8 will likely play professional hockey (only Archibald hasn't so far. Oullette likely will sign somewhere out of college). Brandon Archibald's hockey career was cut short by injuries, so it's unfair to call him a bad pick.

At least, it looks like nearly all were reasonable picks. Straka wasn't signed but will likely end up playing in the NHL, Corbeil had a steller QMJHL career, Oullette went from being a very questionable pick to having a fantastic junior and senior seasons at Maine.

Madaisky is having trouble cracking the Springfield line up after battling injuries. He still could be a decent prospect for the Jackets and depending on what happens with Golo, Erixon, Savard and Prout next season, he could be the defensive depth. And Madaisky has played more games for Springfield this season than Evansville.

Not signing Straka seems like the only mistake.

It's weird to think that from a standpoint of strictly assets, the second-worst draft this team had from 2007 to 2012 was one that had Ryan Johansen and Dalton Prout.

Personally, when I'm scoring a draft, the traded players go in the middle, with the unsigned ones being at the bottom.
