Fed up with mixed signals from ownership/exec management. The last point about Cyril/Mr Melnyk in particular sums it up. A chunk of the fan-base is feeling played and the team need to accept that.

For me, we're at a point of no return - very few believe that Mr Melnyk subsidises the team - many suspect that the revenue is funding other parts of his empire - the trust is pretty much gone.

At a bare minimum, the team need to get everyone on the same page and be straight with the fanbase - no more contradictions.

Melnyk did not get his casino... I'm concerned he is going to let a couple guys like Ryan, Methot walk as UFAs to further make his point

Sell the team to who??? Hard to find a new owner who wants to take on a team that struggles to make money.

Yes it sucks that he is the owner but if this team is sold, it's also relocating. Be careful what you wish for.

Not if the team continues to make stupid decisions.

It's getting pretty frustrating to be a fan of this team, and I'm near the point where I want to jump ship. It's hard to be a fan of a team that plays it's 4th line more than their stars/players than can actually win a game.

I don't go to games to watch Neil Greening Smith on the ice doing... whatever the **** they do. I don't understand Maclean's decisions, and since what he's doing isn't leading to wins I can only assume they aren't the right decisions.

Most of the corporate owners of late have been media companies which are using these sports properties as content to generate advertising dollars. As has been said, ownership of the Senators in a small market where the largest customer cannot buy any tickets does not make sense, and this applies even more so for corporations.

I don't see any billionaires in the Ottawa region ready to essentially own a money-losing hockey team as simply a toy. There probably aren't too many potential owners outside of Ottawa will to buy the team without moving it either.

so you guys do not understand the sens are and have always been a low budget team? I don't get it...
The team has never been able to spend with the big boys and it never will. It's called a small market

This is just pathetic. We 're lucky to have a hockey team and an owner willing to risk millions of dollars.

There's no lineup of billionaires waiting to buy the team.

Spending an extra 10 million on free agents is risky and far from a guarantee of success.

We've been one of the better hockey clubs over the past 20 years and have seen our most successful years while Melnyk was owner.

Suck it up butter cup. Smell the roses. We've got a young team and we're in a great position to build while still having a chance to compete in the hear future.

Great letter Bonk. Now what will you do with it? I suggest getting in touch with Ken Warren, get that in the weekend paper

That's the thing though. It's awfully hard to believe that they do lose money, especially with everything that has happened recently. Seems like owning the team is now offsetting some of EM's other ventures that are losing money.

I can also pinpoint the exact moment that Euge failed us and things started going downhill. I know we aren't supposed to talk about it on this forum, or anywhere, but it was the Gladiator. The people responsible for the gameday stuff like that tried and tried to tell him that it was a terrible idea, but Euge loved it and vetoed everyone... it went ahead. I was so embarrassed as a fan, sitting there in that arena watching that trainwreck unfold. Damn you Euge...please listen, please look for a buyer, or at least a partner.

Exactly. In our entire franchise history we had like two years where we decided to spend with the big boys and that was thanks to the hard cap.

We may be a small market team but should we really be bottom 5 in spending?

Ottawa-based buyers got the Coyotes. A group from Winnipeg got the Jets.
If Melnyk put the team up for sale tomorrow I'm sure people would bid for it.

The King in Yellow, and at some point we remove the pallid mask and we're all in the black right?

Anyway Bonktastic your letter is laudable but it will fall on blind eyes. Melnyk loves the limelight afforded him by ownership and he's going to run this team into the ground until he either gets a casino or fandom/NHL forces his hand. He's just that stubborn unfortunately.

This needs to go into the Citizen

I've given up on the team this year, I couldn't even muster up enough energy to watch the last few games

As someone else said it's ridiculous: last year was probably one of the best years I've had as an Ottawa Senators fan and this... This trainwreck of a season is just sucking out all enthusiasm I had for the team and it's clearly a widespread issue: the owner won't spend despite us making the secound round last year and landing a huge deal with TSN, the coach plays our checking line players more than our top goal-scorer and our young guys are clearly having a hell of time

I have faith that the coach is trying to drill into our player's heads of how hard they need to play to win (Neil and all play hard, they just aren't very good). But the night and day from last year is unbearable as a fan

What I don't understand is why he seems to insist on being the only person who owns the team when across the league there are more and more teams that are either owned by groups of investors or corporations. Is he really that much of a control freak? Even if he got just one other multi-millionaire to have a share of the team they would be in a much better position than they are today.

I would imagine it would be pretty easy to get this in as a letter to the editor. Maybe OP could even try to contact James Gordon to see if he could publish it in the sports section as he is always very active on Twitter.

Everything got so much better in Edmonton and Buffalo once the dollar bills started falling from the sky eh? Fans of all 30 teams are getting screwed by their owners in their very own unique special way - anybody coming in after Melnyk will find their own 'Casino' within no time. It's an unfortunate reality but at least we get some good hockey out of it - right?

Mo money mo problems.

No one wants to play in Edmonton

Buffalo spent like drunken sailors as soon as they could

Those two situations are hardly comparable to ours

I hate the fact that EM has sent mix signals over the last year about not having to make the playoffs to make money, then a few months later singing a different tune.

But we've been SPOILED as a fan base.
It's not easy to build a winner year in, year out.

We've had 1 sub .500 record since '97.

Let's get some perspective people.
We still have a very young team...and Chris Phillips

I love the letter, definitely on target.

But.....what about the arena, Capital Tickets, and whatever other ventures under the Sens umbrella? I have a funny feeling some of them are cash cows...so much so, that even if Melynk was forced to sell the team, the NHL can't force him to sell the arena, or any of the other satellites. Without those extras, no buyer would be able to make a go at it in this city and have a chance of breaking even.

Edmonton's faults are more in their management with the whole old buys club they have going on with Lowe, MacT, Tambellini, etc. and their failure to improve their defense and (up until now) goaltending. Buffalo has been slowly getting worse ever since 2007. I don't think ownership has anything to do with their team's on-ice performance.

I've watched most of the games I've had a chance to since 2002 (when I came back to Canada)

I feel defeated and it's not a good feeling at all

But, at the end of the day, it's just hockey so it's not that bad either

I'm talking more around Katz touring Seattle and things of that nature. As long as there's a demand for hockey these guys have each of their cities by the balls and they know it. Melnyk's managed to keep his evil-doings in Ottawa on a small potatos scale - not sure if we can look forward to the same once 'big' money is pumped into the team.

Euge is the annoying uncle who musses up your hair and tells off colour jokes - but at least you know you're leaving thanksgiving dinner without any bruises in the end.
