Fear not. Ghost will be here soon, and he'll be benched instead.

****, in a few years the benched players will form a better defensive core than the ones Berube plays.

Well next year he will be about the 19th highest paid goalie and the 23rd highest the year after. Guess he is paid right in line.

Of course, if you WATCHED the last game, 3 of 4 goals were on the PP. Not all GA are equal. That is why stats are sometimes flawed.

Yet he is 17-7-3 during that time frame.

All games since the Olympic break have been pretty crazy and even though his stats in those games look pretty bad, he passes the eye ball test. They are just allowing too many goals against as a team right now including way too many PP goals...

I think if 90% if goalies in the league spent that time below league average, that red bar would be lower.

5 on 5 the Flyers controlled the game the other night. really cant fault Mason.
stop taking dumb penalties.
Has Mason been great? no. but just about every night he has given this team a chance to win. the Flyers have been far to loose in their own end. they are giving some elite players some high end scoring chances and when they happens the goalie(no matter who it is) is usually fishing the puck out of the net.
defense needs to be better. a lot better for this team to have success. if they continue to play defense like this the playoff run will be very short. if they get in.

Mason's #'s in the 3rd period are pretty ridiculous.

I am not sure if I am sold on Mason but lets see how he finishes the season. He started off hot and since december has been :-/ (still a much cheaper and better option than Bryz was).

Is there a way to find his Save % when 5 v 5? I would be curious as to what that is. Looking at his split stats he also has a .925% on 3 days+ rest (he is also good on 0-1 day rest) so maybe the travel leaves him a bit tired?. Having a good backup might save the Flyers from a bad game from Mason. I am interested in what the backup situation will be next season.

His EV SV% is .921. ~ average

His SH SV% is .886. Above average.

His PP SV% is .839. Amongst the worst.

This immediately tells me that Flyers need a competent 2nd pp unit and need to stop taking so many damn penalties and we wont have to worry about mason.

Which indicates that the Flyers give up too many odd-man rushes on their own powerplay.

Yup. Emery's SV% when we're on the Powerplay is .808. Both goalies have given up 5 shorties this season. Interestingly, Bob is by far the worst goalie on the Powerplay this season, stopping just .667 of shots.

If the Flyers committed less penalties and protetced the puck better on the powerplay both Flyers goalies would have slightly but significantly better save percentages. The last game against Washington could easily have been a shutout if the Flyers could stay out of the damn box. Washinton had no 5 on 5 offense going on.

The thing that should also be noted with Flyers goalies is their SV% will always be pulled slightly down due to how much penalty time they face... even though Mason is performing well in SH situations and our PK is good, that .886% is over 7 mins a game... compared to an average of ~5.5 for most teams so far in the year... so 1.30 extra worth of mins at .886% compared to on an average team per game. (so in his 45 games worth of mins (2700) that is ~75 mins more than the average goalie at SH strength.)

That drags it down by a few points.

The blue line is below the red line way more than it is above it.
