Alternative offers

It would be interesting to compile rumours about other offers that were made or trades that ended up falling apart, without having to weed through individual transaction threads. For instance, did anyone hear about other offers for Vanek that Snow had to choose from?

Only thing out of the Leafs (directly from Nonis) was that he was working on a deal which would have moved out a young player from our roster for another young player. My guess is Gardiner. Definitely wasnt Rielly. Doubt very much that it was Kadri.

Burke said there was a 3 way deal in which Calgary would take on a bad contract for picks but the other team couldn't get the paperwork into the league by the deadline.

I didn't catch that - did he say that he'd trade picks for bad contracts or get the contracts and the picks to go with them?

Leaf fax machines are notoriously evil.

Clarkson to Calgary at the draft.

That Calgary would take on bad contracts but get picks as compensation. The guys on the Fan 960 were suggesting that the rumor floating around the Dome was that it might have had something to do with Cam Ward... but who knows if there is any merit to that.

Probably a classic Burke "buying" picks/prospects type deal. Like the Olaf Kolzig and Matt Lombardi deals

This would make sense. He traded out Berra at the last minute and has said all along he could take on the contracts other GMs want to get rid of.

That and a few others are mentioned in this article by Lebrun:

Seriously might have been for Bouillon.

That guy has a 1% chance to see the ice again.

Subban, Markov, Weaver, Gorges, Emelin, Murray and Tinordi are with the team right now too. Nathan Beaulieu has already played ahead of him when called up. Habs are right to the cap and it sounds like the Vanek deal was done right at the deadline.

Joe Sakic said on the radio that they thought they had a deal for a young defenseman but it fell through.

More likely to be Bourque than Bouillon. Bouillon barely makes anything so why would the Habs send him away with a pick instead of demoting him?

Why send Bourque down ? He makes more, but he's as useful as White, Bournival, or anyone down in Hamilton except for maybe Andrighetto.

I never said to send Bourque down. I meant that if Montreal was going to unload a player by trading him with picks, it would be Bourque, not Bouillon.

I thought I heard that the Leafs made an offer for Vanek as well? Or maybe they just asked what his price was? Something like that.

Interesting, I'd assume it was Kulikov (who they were rumoured to be after earlier in the year).

Rangers were offering Callahan and a 2014 second for MSL up until Wednesday morning. Yzerman demanded the 2015 1st and would not have traded St. Louis without it.

Apparently.

We let you guys have that one though.

Nonis earlier in the day said a younger player(s) "hockey trade" was in the works, But nothing came of it.

I can't imagine we made a legitimate offer for Vanek considering what he ended up going for.

No offence to Montreal but it wouldn't take much to beat an offer of Collberg + cond 2nd.

I would have strongly considered giving a straight 1st for Vanek.

From what Lebrun said isles didn't want any cap coming back so while some teams may have offered more they also had salary going the other way

My best guess would be Kadri for Larsson. I wouldn't have liked it but it sort of makes sense from both sides.

#NHLBruins Neely told @985TheSportsHub they had deal in place with another team contingent on that team making a deal with a 3rd team.

Further to @ShawnHutcheon's tweet, gotta wonder if BOS and CGY were in on it. B's spoke to CGY about Cammalleri and CGY also had a 3way thru
Boston, Calgary and someone else???
