Per team Twitter account, Raanta will start and Hjalmarsson will play.

Raanta has not played well for a while now and his time off could mean a lot of rust (Hasn't played since Jan 28th)

Didn't really get why you wouldn't play him Sunday. CC should be starting against the team you're in a dogfight with.

Are we allowed to question coaching decisions anymore?

We havent been beating the avs anyways. I don't think a goalie change will be what decides the game. Unless Raanta gets a shutout of course. That would be nice to see

Was confused at the decision, but I'll trust Q's opinion over my/our confusion on this board.

What will decide the game will be if Colorado gets laughably lucky as they already have several times.

Difficult to keep winning these games while getting outshot and outchanced as heavily as the Avalanche have been.

This is true. Gotta credit them from stepping up their play from bottom of the league last year though.
Maybe it was all a plot to get MacKinnon

Crow's been very bad against the Avs this year. .830 and a 3.9. Why not give Raanta the start

If we lose this game we drop to 5th best in the conference. Hard to believe how good the top teams in this conference are right now......

I don't mind Raanta getting the start, but the Hawks have struggled against the Avs for a few years now.

The NHL, specifically the Western Conference, is looking very top heavy this year. I know point totals have been inflated since the 3 point game was introduced but the West is on pace to have 5 of 14 teams finish with 112+ points. The Hawks had 112 points in 2009-2010 and that was good enough for third in the NHL.

Very true.

And truth be told, I'm honestly not too concerned about seeding. Would I prefer to face a Minnesota or a Dallas in the first round over a St. Louis or a Colorado? Sure, but ultimately we're still a team that I'm confident could beat anybody so long as we bring our A-game in the playoffs (though obviously not saying we're anywhere near unbeatable even at at best). Anything can happen there, but at this point I'm more interested in making sure that our guys are healthy, have the right habits, and that hopefully a funk or two is over come playoff time. Not going to worry if we have a divisional banner at the end of the year or if we end up second or third in the Central in the regular season.

Seems like everytime Q does something people question it and think their idea is better. I understand questioning a move here or there, but for some, it's every single thing Q does.

Tell me, when has Crawford played well against Colorado this year? He hasn't. He has let in 9 goals on 53 shots, that is *&^%^& terrible. I'm A-OK with starting a goalie who has actually won against them recently.

No, their goalies have struggled against the Av's. (outside of Raantas 7-2 win)

The Hawks have outplayed the Av's in almost every game.

Raanta cannot be as bad as COs ugly stats and FAILS against Colorado. ..As to the WALL that Varlamov has been against us..his overall save% is only. 925. ..but it seems closer to. 980 against us...obviously the laws of statistics demand far below his season save% will haopen in some games to get him back to his overLy average level..so he is due for sticker against us eventually..but eventually might be several years out if the hockeyb gods only let him have stickers against other teams on occasion before they get around to granting an "off" game by him against us...gonna happen..but cannot predict it will be THIS game...so I expect the hockey gods to keep on rewaiding Patrick Roy in his charmed season of getting outlawed but still pulling out wins..expect ANOTHER WALL performance by Varlamov..what can you do when the hockey gods refuse to reward better play..CORSI and scoring chance dominance over just the charmed luck they have decreed to these young upstarts from Colorado..Their forwards can skate and they are efficient shooters when opportunities to score come...but they give up.lots of scoring chances the other way...so far Varlamov has saved them during possible losses into victories..but as I said eventually he must play a few stinkers over the course of a season.. Can we cause one of those stinker? Sure...eventually..but given their special luck Against us this season..probably it will not be tonight that Varlamov gets pulled..Probably he is a Wall again and next game or the one after or the one after that. ..some team will put a 5 spot on him...what can you do when the hockey gods bestow favours on them and no longer on us? Probably just shrug at the unfairness of rotten luck.

Avalanche coach Patrick Roy wasn't all that believing that #Blackhawks are starting Antti Raanta in goal tonight. "We'll see at game time."

I have no problem with Raanta starting tonight, but devils advocate:

This is the last regular season matchup against the Avs. Raanta's not going to be in net if we face them in the playoffs. It would be nice if Crow could get this monkey off his back now with a good game rather than go into a playoff series less than 100% confident because of how he's played against the Avs all year.

Then again, he could go out there and play like garbage which would only hurt his confidence even more, so I guess it goes both ways.
