I have my doubts too. But this person tipped me off on the Czuczman signing last week so I'm inclined to believe him.

According to Compton and the Isles' twitter, Czuczman is joining the Islanders directly. Interesting since we're at 23. Would guess Martinek waived, or Grabs/Boulton on IR. But I don't see the point of 9 D.

How many free agent big time college players are out there? Most have been drafted.

I remember how pissed I was when Gilroy was signed by the Rags and he did not amount to anything of note.

Maybe Donovan will be sat or sent down? I can't see them sitting Strait, Hickey, Vis, CdH, or Hammonic.

The point is probably that (according to reports) 16 teams were interested in him, the Isles probably promised him a spot with the team the rest of the way to get him to sign. Which I am completely fine with seeing as how the season is over anyway.

Isn't that the carrot for signing? You burn a year of pro eligibility.

Lee did the same thing as he would have been a FA if we did not do that.

Yep. Islanders present a really good opportunity for these kids to see a couple games of NHL time + NHL money, and then get a new contract sooner.

Well, Boulton is hurt and Grabner is too. We need a forward.

Unless we go 7 D with Czuczman being the 7th.

People are still whining about Kichton? The guy who dropped to 190 his second time around in the draft? This place is ridiculous.

This is a nice pick up for the Islanders. Good size, and I like that he reporting right to the Islanders.

With the season done, they should give him a good look — perhaps 5-6 games and see if he can adjust to the NHL speed.

Perhaps management is seeing the benefit that a big body can bring in players like Nelson and Lee... not that they didn't know but with all the skill guys the Islanders drafted, not that many have size. While that is not a requirement (and lets face it — they are all taller then I am) the fact is, it is not easy to play at 5'11" or 6' and go up night after night against 6'3" and 6'4" guys.

Ah. 23 man roster is not in effect post-deadline. So no corresponding move is needed.

Tidbits:

"Czuczman, 23, is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound rearguard that scored 10 goals and 21 points in 36 games this season for Lake Superior — the same school that produced the likes of Doug Weight and Brian Rolston.

Czuczman has skated in each of Buffalo’s last two summer development camps and, according to Friedman, was one of the most highly regarding college free agents in this year’s class...."

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...dout-czuczman/

He's got a JT and DW connection, and step 1 of Snow's revenge on Buffalo?

Here are 2 recently signed undrafted College Free Agents that are currently top 4 NHL D-men in the NHL- Boston Torey Krug and Detroit Danny Dekeyser another really good undrafted College free agent is Toronto 2nd line center Tyler Bozak

I've never seen this kid play but I believe that you leave no stone unturned when it comes to acquiring talent. If we are not going to be able to attract big dollar UFAs, they have money to spend and open roster spots so they may as well make a big effort to sign the best collegiate and undrafted FAs.

While many never make it there is always a chance to sign a Taylor Bozak, a Matt Read or a Chris Kunitz without having to gve up any talent in exchange. The Isles can offer a chance to play...and play NOW.

Low risk signings with potential reward.

It would be awesome if Greg Carey signed here, but hey congrats to Czuczman. It's a big deal to sign an NHL contract out of college.

I gotta try and see if I can cut Tavares lawn.

The nepotism is strong with this organization.

I like his size. Hopfully he's a player.

How in the hell is that pronounced "churchman"?

Hope he ends up looking good for us, but I'd be happier with a G or F considering we have some pretty good depth at the D position.

Maybe it's someone like Kevin Hayes of Boston College, 6'4 RW power forward. Think he's a free agent real soon, former Blackhawks 1st round pick in 2010.

I'm fine with all the Tavares nepotism, it's the Snow/Cappy bridges that have to burn.

You're complaining about the guy we drafted as an overager in the 5th round, he *****ed about money and went BACK into the draft, and was selected in the 7th round?

I can understand Spurgeon, but this tool? Pick your battles man, it just makes you look bad when you harp on this one.

More and more I read about this kid it looks like a good deal, on the level with Dekeyser but more physical.
