McCabe needs surgery

Bill Watters and Jeff Marek reproted on Leafs Lunch today that Bryan McCabe will need surgery to repair the damage done to his knee during the off season and should be out (nothing definate) somewhere between 3-6 months.

They went on to speculate that this means JFJ will have to make a trade for a defenseman sooner rather then later. This is why Green was put on waivers, to free up his 1.6 million in salary which would allow them to bring in a higher salary defenseman. They are guessing Tucker, Domi and/or Belak, along with prospects are being used as trade bait.

It's going to be interesting to see what JF actually does here. Will he go out and trade a top end prospect and possibly tucker/Belak to land someone? I hope he does not sell the farm to get the chicken sort of speak.

Bad news for the Leafs....they had to go out and get themselves another Defenceman anyways....now they have some incentive to do so.........I wonder what's out there available that could help out the Leafs?.......do we deal away some of our future for some experience?

There is still some good help out there such as Yeski and Oleg who could help the leafs blue line... I think they need another puck moving defenseman as most of the guys they have are the stay at home type such as Klee, Berg, Marchmant , Jackman. Adding a puck moving defenseman who can score such as Oleg would take some pressure off of Kaberle and give the leafs 2 good PP units. While Yeski would give the team another stay at home type defenseman to help solidify the defense With the leafs signing a UFA now gives them the option and saves the assets to make that trade around the deadline to get this team over the hump. I do not see the point in trading any assets now when there are players who are capable we could pick up for simply a contract.
