Nolan Schaefer wants to return to NHL

Quote:
RUMOR - As the Corriere del Ticino reports, HC Ambrì-Piotta's goaltender Nolan Schaefer is looking to get a contract in the National Hockey League. His contract with HCAP expires at the end of the season.

With the signing of netminder Michael Flückiger this week, the departure of the 34-year-old Swiss-Canadian seems only to be a matter of time and according to the Corriere del Ticino, he is not searching for a new team in Switzerland, but wants to find a contract in the National Hockey League.

Nolan Schaefer is currently in his third season with HC Ambrì-Piotta. He was drafted in 2000 by the San José Sharks and played the majority of his career in the American Hockey League, before he came to Switzerland in 2011. He has played 25 games for HCAP this season with a 2.15 goals against average and a 93.3 save percentage.

I am looking forward to Schaefer's return after his triumphant 7 game NHL career nearly a decade ago.

Peter Schaefer's brother.

The Bruins had him in 2011. They placed him on waivers to clear space for Brian McGrattan.

Regarding his first game:
Quote:
Schaefer to hold fort for Sharks a little longer: Cheechoo basking in heroic glow: [Early Edition]
Chi, Victor. Calgary Herald [Calgary, Alta] 30 Oct 2005: D3.

...

Friday night at the Staples Center, Jonathan Cheechoo capped his terrific performance-as well as his team's longest trip this season- by scoring a power-play goal with 3.7 seconds left to give the Sharks a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles.

Cheechoo helped the Sharks get on the board less than a minute and a half into the game with a perfect setup to Patrick Marleau. Then with the clock winding down, Cheechoo swept in a loose puck from point-blank range for his fifth goal.

This gave the Sharks a 2-3-1 record on the trip and gave goalie Nolan Schaefer a victory in his first NHL start.

Schaefer picked up his first NHL win Wednesday with a relief effort in Dallas, also a 5-4 triumph.

"Crazy game," said Schaefer, who finished with 21 saves.

"I hope they're not all 5-4."

Schaefer started and Patzold dressed as the backup goalie because Evgeni Nabokov (shoulder) and Vesa Toskala (groin) are on the shelf.

Schaefer said he hoped to be more relaxed than he was Wednesday when Toskala's injury pressed him into duty.

"But I think you could see that I was little shaky when I misplayed the puck right off the start," Schaefer said.

"That seemed to scare our team into playing well, so it worked out really well."

Peter's brother

OP is clearly Nolan's agent trying to get his name out there again

The way the article was worded, it seemed to me like he was hoping to get an NHL contract and play in the AHL, where he had a great deal of success.

Yeah, and I want to go out with Lauren Mayberry, but some of us are realistic.

The unsung hero of the sharks 2005-6 season where Thornton/Cheechoo swept the scoring awards!

I thought maybe I'd get bashed for not knowing who this guy is. I see I'm not the only one.

Saw the thread title and immediately thought of a gene splice between Peter Schaefer and Nolan Baumgartner.

Garth Snow's ace in the hole.

Does he know how to skate?

The only reason I know of Nolan Schaefer is because I remember having him in my hockey pool during the 05/06 season for whatever reason.

He wasn't even the clear No.1 with Ambri this season (shared time with an other goalie, he played 26 games, other goalie 28), so good luck with getting an NHL gig.
And I doubt he would want to play in the AHL because of how much less he would make while playing there.

Yes, and right now in the play-offs he's the clear No. 2 behind Zurkirchen

He's a goalie?

Yeah he's probably not going to get in. But good luck I guess.

I'll go out on a limb here and say he won't be getting an NHL contract
