Sabres shopping top pick?

Legitimate or not, I think this is really fun to talk about. Sabres are a shoe in for a top 2 pick. He says they would ask for two top prospects +. What would it take to get Buffalo to trade that pick?

This would be the height of stupidity if they did so it isn't happening. The Eric Lindros trade is nice on paper, but none of the guys at the top of this year's draft are at his level or even close to it based on every scouting report I have seen. They will however be shoe ins for the NHL sooner than later, and possibly next year. Any team going through a rebuild that ditched that kind of a pick for two lesser hopefulls... no, it isn't happening.

Everyone is always shopping the top pick every year according to Eklund and others... I feel like we have this thread a few times every year between the trade deadline and the time where the team who has the #1 pick uses it.

Tim Murray will definitely listen to offers on the pick, but I don't even think two top prospects are equal to the elite potential of a top 2 pick. Sabres need elite offensive talent up front, trading the pick would be stupid.

This draft is pretty bad I don't see any franchise players available. If they could actually return two top prospects+ I'd do it. Question is which team has two top prospects they'd be willing to move. I mean if Florida offers hubby,Gudbrandson, and another +, Buffalo would have to think long and hard about that.

The only way a rebuilding team like BUF would trade top picks would be for top prospects.

Huberdeau + Gudbranson + something else!?

I bet you would do that.

No, its not legit. Buffalo has been stock-piling picks, and for what, so they could trade the best one?

I can't imagine the Sabres trading that top pick. We need franchise players, not organization depth. We would need a young NHL star (think Evander Kane coming off his 30 goal year when he was 20. Or a top 3 prospect

How are either of them prospects? That's two number 3 overalls for a top 2 pick, and Florida adds??????????? I think Buffalo would do more than "think long and hard" about that one...

I think the only possibility is swapping picks with another top 5 pick team and that team adding, Florida or Isles could potentially deal for it to leap frog Edmonton and pick Ekblad..

Oh I am more than confident they would trade down if it gave them another 1st in next years deep draft.

Imagine if they ended up with
2015:
1st(isles)
1st(Buffalo)
1st(??)

Convince another lottery team to ship their 1st for Ekblad or Reinhart.

something like 1st overall + 31st overall + 4-5th rounder for 5-6th overall + 2015(1st)

End up with DalColle or Ehliers this year and an almost guarantee of McDavid, Eichel,Barzal (if not 2 of) in 2015

Eichel-McDavid-DalColle
Armia-Hodgson-Ennis
Foligno-Grigorenko-Girgensons

Zadarov-Myers
Ristolainen-Ehrhoff
Pysyk-McCabe

Scary

Never said florda would offer that, that's just what came to mind when I seen two top prospects. But you do have a point I don't think Gudbrandson is really a prospect anymore.

If you want to trade down, you can get a good prospect.

If you really want to trade the pick, then you should go for a legit player and a prospect.

I could actually see it happening this year. IMO, there isn't that much difference between Reinhart, Bennett, Dal Colle and Draisaitl. If a team really wanted Ekblad, I could see Buffalo moving down a couple spots, if the price was right.

If I was EDM I would add a bit but nothing crazy to get Ekblad
Yak nada bad year but I blame that more on the coach. He would be a legit scorer
I know everyone will say no but he will be a good player remember there are lots of good players that take time look at Johanson from CBJ

I know you didn't, but you did say the think long and hard thing. And neither are prospects in any way. Huberdeau is in his second full season and Gudbranson his 3rd. Something like Petrovic + Howden + would be a prospect package from Florida.

And something like that wouldn't get you anywhere near a #1/2 pick.

What do you think the plus would have to be though

Johansen + Wennberg for 1st overall is what I'd assume from Jackets it would have to be

Johansen is worth more than 1st overall by himself, that is horrible for the Jackets. Let this thread die Eklund just made bank from this rumor.
