Bryan Bickell to Calgary

Brian Burke has stated the Flames will try to use their salary space to take on players with big contracts in a cap dump trade and a prime candidate I could see Burke going after in the offseason is Bryan Bickell. He is overpayed, maybe too much for Chicago who may look to unload some contracts, yet he would add size, grit and another NHL body to the flames, he is also decently young (28), question I have is what would Chicago want back realistically? The guy only has 12 points this season, my first offer would be the penguins 3rd rounder we got for stempniak.

First acquire right handed defenseman Eric Gryba from Ottawa or right handed defenseman Brett Bellemore from Carolina and the Chicago Blackhawks will talk, that is if the salary cap will be $68 million instead of $71 million for the 2014-15 NHL Season.

Calgary isn't going to give up picks for a cap dump. Burke said the Flames could be bankers, but that means teams would be paying us to unload salary not the other way.

Exactly,

If Bickell is coming here Chicago can send a 1st along with him to take on that awful contract. Were not giving up assets to help another team out of cap trouble.

You mean Bickell, the guy who cashed in on a fabulous playoff run and hasn't come anywhere close to that since then?

No thanks.

He's been decent since the Olympic break, and is starting to show the promise he had in the playoffs last year. Hawks have zero interest in paying someone to take on Bickell. We'll just keep him instead.

Whether the hawks dump him I think entirely depends on how he does in the playoffs. Personally considering how much salary we could shed I'd take a 3rd for him

Not enough of a bribe for Calgary to take him.

If the cap doesn't come in as high as people thought, this summer could be really interesting

That's kind of how camp dumps work. You have to provide the other team with incentive to take them.

Bickell has been awful lately.

Accually lately hes been decent. Early in the season when he was playing through an injury he was AWFUL.

Either way i wouldnt mind getting rid of that contract.

His full season EVG pace last 4 seasons.
10-11 78GM 15 EVG .192 EVG/Gm top 75 EVG Production
11-12 71GM 9 EVG .127 EVG/gm top 180 EVG Production
12-13 48 GM 9 EVG .1875 EVG/gm top 75 EVG Production
13-14 52GM 10 EVG .192 EVG/gm Top 75 EVG production.

He is pretty much a 15 EVG / Season player.
top 90 is 1st line caliber at that skill.

Compensation for Calgary!

you guys are Crazy!

As an oiler fan!

Hall 6'1" 205Lb - Gagner 5'11" 202lb - XXX

Perron 6'0" 200lb - XXX- Eberle 5'10" 180lb

XXX- RNH 6'1" 185lb - Yak 5'11" 185LB

hendricks 6'0" 211lb - Gordon 6'0" 200lb - Smyth 6'2' 195lb

Bickell 6'4" 233lb 4M

I would be quite happy with Bickell running shotgun with our two 20 year old fwds.

There is only so much PP time!

So your Goal production needs to come from Even.

You want lots of top 200 EVG scorers in your top 10 FWDS.

Heck Penner was paid 3.25M for his Playoff production.

UFA Penner would look great with Hall-Gagner!

As far as taking a cap dump, I think you could do worse than Bickell. Obviously wouldnt give up anything of real value for him, and would need something coming back to balance out the contract, but contract aside he seems like a good addition to our bottom 6. Size plus some playing ability is always welcome.

Bickell will be an enticing enough player that Chicago can unload him without giving up their first to do it. Burke did manage to do that in the past, but it was often for old players past their prime or young players who don't have a roster spot on their team, not decent, but overpaid players.

On HFBoards that's how they work. In reality, not so much. Trading a pick to give salary to another team has only happened a couple times, such as the Kolzig to Toronto trade. Otherwise, it's usually just "selling low" on a player to ditch the contract, or more recently, retaining a portion of their contract.
