I think Barbashev (he's playing C now right?) is a great fit in Detroit but I'd be shocked if they actually took a Russian in the first round.

overall a very solid mock draft. Only thing that really stood out to me is the absence of Demko.

Yotes won't be taking D in the 1st round.

I don't view him as 1st round talent. Just my opinion.

When analyzing their assets, using HF as a base reference, I noticed their lack of elite D and overall D depth. They only have 5 d-men at a 6.0 or above, so I felt a top D prospect is what they needed most.

best list i have seen yet! if i'm Buffalo, i am taking a chance on this guy, especially at 29.

and i don't know if Cornel is a 1st rounder. likely Kevin Fiala or Demko.

We also have 31. I would actually love if Buffalo took Demko there.

I like the top 10, very plausible. There will be a pretty big variance in opinion after that but looks reasonable.

to me it's the top 5, then a drop in talent. what was said in these parts on one of our sports radio stations today was that if by some chance the Sabres were to trade Tyler Myers to the Oilers, the asking price would start at the Oilers 1st rounder +. if Buffalo was lucky enough to have the Islanders differ this year's 1st rounder to them in order to keep next year's 1st rounder, the theory was that the Sabres could not only pick likely 1st overall and take Ekblad as Myer's replacement, and Ekblad is said to likely be NHL ready for next year, but also have 2 more top 5 picks! an amazing thought when you think about it, that the Sabres could walk away with some combo of Ekblad, Bennett, Reinhart, Draisaitl or Dal Colle!

We have two defensemen who are probably going to both finish in the top 10 of Norris voting again this year (Yandle, OEL), a 8.0 TWD prospect in Gormley about to make his debut next season, a 7.0 TWD in Murphy who, despite his injury history, turned in 20 very solid games for us in our Top 4 as an injury call-up, and two physical bottom pairing guys in Summers and Stone who are young and still have Top 4 upside.

We're finally using our blueline depth this season and it will probably need to be replenished gradually, but our organizational need is still very much scoring forwards. We did lose Klesla, Morris is getting older, and Michalek has injury issues - but Maloney can get decent stay-at-home D prospects in later rounds. The 1st will be used on a forward.

I'd be happy with Pastrnak.

Barbashev or McCann for the Caps IMO. GMGM hates Finns and they're already pretty well accounted for on the right side.

Hard to see Fabbri going that late and Fiala definitely ought to be in there.

Well GMGM may not be making the decisions, but valid points.

I don't see an opportunity to put Fabbri any higher right now. His smallish size hurts his value, and the next few guys are a 1/2 step above him in my opinion.

Fiala is next on my list of forwards.

^you might have a fight on your hands from the Oilers. after just missing by one pick on Zack Fucale last year, i heard that MacT was interested in Demko at this year's draft. if they really are, look for the Oilers to try to trade up to the bottom of the 1st round to get him.

Given where the Yotes pick, good chance the best player left on the board is a defenseman(since most team ahead of them will have scooped up the forwards)

Perhaps, but draft rankings are certainly not set in stone. There's always risers and fallers. We have an extra 2nd which we could certainly use to move up; Maloney has also traded down before into the 20s.

We'll see what happens. But although we've added some talent in our forward pool recently, we still need guys with dynamic talent on offense. Our blueline is pretty set for years to come.

Well I am just making a generalization that teams tend to want to draft forwards more then defense and chances are at 16 the best player left on the board will be a defenseman because of that. that being said decent chance the Yotes will be one of those teams that let that defenseman fall even farther

If you playing the odds, you are more likely to get a top defenseman after the top 10 then a top forward(and if you going for a forward your best bet is to swing for the fences and go for a power forward). All that being said if I drafted with my philosophy I would miss out on Giroux and Eberle.

Which is why I'd definitely take Bleackley, Tuch or Kempe at 16 for the Yotes.

I'd be happy with Fleury, Canucks need an elite defence prospect or at least high end depending on what you think of Fleury

Very good mock. I'd love if the Rangers could get McCann or Ho-Sang.

But I'm not sure Pastrnak will fall that low, otherwise a solid mock

Probably the best mock I've seen so far. I'd switch Ho-Sang with Honka and I agree with almost everything here. Love the Kempe choice for Montreal.
