A lot could happen at the draft. What if oilers win the lottery? What if somebody outside the top 3 wins the lottery? Obviously the oilers key target should be ekblad but even if he's not available, I wouldn't mind someone like Bennett, dal colle, or drasaitl because that's also a need. Don't forget that mact will try and move Gagner at the draft as well, so we may need the immediate help if they can come in n play 16 mins like Monahan/MacKinnon/barkov.

The real issue that needs to be addressed is moving gagner n one of eberle or yakupov for a different type of player, likely eberle because yaks stock is low. Someone like Simmonds on rw n hanzal, j.staal on 2c would make this teams top 6 much much better.

After that its fixing the d up, considering the immerging play of marincin, klefbom n the potential of nurse, it's just a matter of time n how much more immediate help m a ct can get. God knows we need more capable top 4 d men when our rookies are looking like the best on the team

Scrivener and Luu are going to propel the Oilers and Cats right past the isles.

That is our youth there, and add to that whoever Tallon trades for or signs in the offseason. On defense, we have Kuli, Gudbranson, Soupy, Petrovic, and Robak, but I think if you add a Ekblad to that core, with Matheson and McCoshen on their way, eventually, that is some D core!

I would actually use the pick as trade bait if Ekblad was off the board, to try and get a winger for the Barkov or Bjuggernaut line.

Dont see it happening. Gudbranson and Barkov are probably done for the rest of the season, Huberdeau wont be on this trip, and we have a lot of rookies in the lineup right now. I think the Panthers pick no later than 3rd.

It would suck if they came in last again and lost the lottery.

No. We need a guy with size. We already have a good two-way, top 6 center in RNH

Edmonton needs C and D, which is what the top 5 concentrates on. I honestly think that any of Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Dal Colle or Draisaitl would be an acceptable choice for them.

You realize that the Islanders have 9 players on their roster who weren't in the NHL last season, right? With no Tavares.

It will be a battle of epic proportions on the tank front until the end of the season.

Also it's pretty obvious from recent years that Oilers aren't tanking, they are just a bad team.
I'm basing the Sabres taking Reinhart off what Bob Mckenzie, Craig Button, and what the majority of the Sabres board has said. Who of significance have said Buffalo is taking Ekblad first?

I know, but this year is interesting because I figured they really want an NHL ready defenseman, and I think Florida would be happy with either Ekblad or Bennett, but it doesn't seem like they're desperate ebough to give up something significant for him.

Panthers got Luongo, no way are they easily outtanking, if they even do, outtank the oilers if Lu comes even close to as advertised.

Unfortunately, Luongo can't score. Florida's leading scorer has 34 points.

As a non-Olier fan, it's easy to see that what the needs are. A #2 C and top pairing D. If they get a top 3 pick, they fill one of those spots.

They would almost be better to get the C. Then take Gagner, move him to RW and trade Eberle for a D-man that can actually help them next year.

I think the first overall pick is Ekblad no matter which of these teams is making the pick.

The Organization deserves that.

''Gotta draft that forward and oh,ya that forward.''

''Why not that defenseman?''

''We don't need a Defenseman that could potentially lead our defense for years to come!''
Are you implying there is a possibility the Oilers draft a forward over Ekblad if both are on the board... or that missing out on Ekblad would be karma for some imaginary franchise defender EDM missed out on picking in a previous lottery year???

I think Buffalo would rather draft Ekblad and trade Myers for something than draft Reinhart. According to Button he's got Reinhart at #5 right now. Not that I ever agree with Button because I think he's clueless when he speaks, but I don't have Reinhart in the top 3 right now. I think there's a very good chance that if the Oilers don't get #1, they trade their pick
