This would be my list but Giroux and H. Sedin switched.

I wanted to keep this all forwards. You could slip Karlsson in otherwise.

That's nice, is he still doing all that this year? or even last year? Should put up Jagr on this list as well, I can throw in a few videos if you want.

I put Thornton below Giroux as well. Giroux produces as much with a lot less

If we are talking about pedigree and consistency over the last few years, order and even the list would change depending on what time frame is taken into consideration.
Pretty much. Maybe put Tavares somewhere after Getzlaf.

There's about 30 players in the NHL with much more impressive highlight videos.

I was amazed reading the 1st page of this thread how many people were leaving Tavares off the list entirely or having him at the bottom of the top 10. IMO he's pretty clearly in the 4-7 range in the league at this point. I think people think of him as a goal-scorer primarily, but he can really dish the puck too.

Datsyuk isn't given enough love here either. The guy's a puck-moving wizard.

Duchene shoots a little to much to be considered a Top 10 playmaker IMO.

Despite being in the Top 10 for Assists this season. If he wasnt ridiciulously snake bitten earlier in the year, and was shooting at a fairly typical 13% he'd likely had 25-27 goals right now, and be Top 5 for points though.

My Top 10 list of playmakers would probably look like:

1. Thornton
2. Crosby
3. Backstrom
4. Malkin
5. Getzlaf
6. Toews
7. Sedin
8. E Staal
9. Krejci
10. Tavares?

Became really tough after the Top 7 though.

EDIT: Completely forgot Datsyuk. Put him in at #8 and move everyone else down a notch.

Are some people serious not having Henrik Sedin in their top 10? Yes, he's having a bad year but every player has a bad year. This guy is still a top 3 play maker in this league

It's not about who produces with less. This isn't a Hart trophy poll. I think people tend to complicate these things. It's simply about who are the best 10 players at passing and making plays? In this case, I would absolutely rank Thornton above Giroux. The guy is still a sublime passer.

Most people do. Only a few posters haven't included Sedin, which is totally fair. They have their opinions too.

For what it's worth, here are the top 10 assist leaders since the beginning of the 05/06 season:

1. Joe Thornton
2. Henrik Sedin
3. Sidney Crosby
4. Martin St. Louis
5. Pavel Datsyuk
6. Ryan Getzlaf
7. Daniel Sedin
8. Brad Richards
9. Henrik Zetterberg
10. Evgeni Malkin

How accurately do you guys think this represents the current list of top 10 playmakers?

I think this would be a better list; players so far this decade sorted by APG. (in terms of who is top ten... not order.)
