Tarasenko out 6 weeks

How do you feel it affects the Blues down the stetch? They will plug Jaskin in -- a kid with enormous upside, size and talent. Big opportunity for him and Magnus PI to assert themselves on a nightly basis. Tarasenko's been very average since the Olympics, so it's not as bad as it might have seemed earlier in the season, but still blows to lose him until at least the 2nd round. Thoughts?

That sucks, what happened?

He's pretty young still, stands to reason he would hit a rough patch. Hopefully for the Blues sakes, they have enough depth get through the first round.

Hopefully he comes back soon and has an impact in the playoffs.

With 21 secs left in the game, he was hit behind the net and stayed down for a few seconds. Looked at first like he was just trying to draw a penalty, but then I realized that made no sense with a 3 goal lead and a few secs left. Just an unfortunate accident.

It's an important loss, but it's not something that the Blues can't overcome at least through the first round of the playoffs. After that, we're going to need the secondary scoring. He should be back by then. Hopefully he comes back refreshed. Any time you lose the guy that's tied for second on the team in goals, it's a big deal. The Blues have done the whole "scoring by committee" thing pretty well this season. Shouldn't be too big of an issue.

The Blues are tremendously deep. I don't think it'll be an issue for them.

This hurts the Blues a lot imo. They will struggle (relatively) w/o him. What's their 2nd line now?

Is Sabotka still out? If so they are in some trouble, but will still probably have the no.1 seed in the West.

Jaskin is a beast. This will probably just help him cement a spot in the lineup and the Blues will be even better for it in the end.

I know it's not all about stats, but I note he's got 9 points in 10 games since Sochi. Care to elaborate on what you mean? I'm curious.

What team have you been watching since the Olympics? He's been just fine, and he's had multiple games where he was our best player. Do I think he's had better stretches? Sure. But to say he's been terrible since the Olympics is utter ridiculous. But to answer the question, down the stretch it won't hurt too bad. But if he's not back for the playoffs it could be bad. We need secondary scoring and he's given us a lot of it.

Terrible was probably too harsh. He's been average, at best. And the last couple of games (especially last night) he deemed disinterested, for whatever reason.

I know he's seemed disengaged the last few games, but 9 points in the last 10 games is far from terrible. He's leading the team in scoring in this current 7-0-1 streak for pete's sake.

Really wish Tarasenko would stop getting injured. I picked him up last season and he was tearing it up and then he was out.

I wouldn't even say he's been disinterested. Also, isn't the speculation that he could have been hurt going into the game last night anyway?

I honestly believe it happened in the Edmonton game, around the time he started shying away from the play at the end.

Possible broken hand, he's getting surgery Wed., they'll reevaluate in 6 weeks. Same thing we went through with Reaves it sounds like. Really wish we would have at least made a play for Vanek or Moulson now.

Bad news for the Blues. They rely on depth. Losing someone with 21 goals in 64 games will hurt any team.

If one of your top nine forwards was going to be injured right now and miss six weeks, Tarasenko is probably the best one to go down. I love Vtank, but going into the playoffs, I think you'll be able to get by with Jaskin filling a third line role and Tarasenko will come back and be a nice little addition in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Jaskin could cement himself as a fixture in the meantime. Could almost be win/win. You'd be much worse off with one of Steen, Oshie, Backes, Schwartz or even Sobotka (him coming back in time for the playoffs is huge, IMO), Berglund (seems to be especially hot lately, maybe finally putting it all together). I mean, I don't mean to brush it off as if Tarasenko being out isn't a loss, but I think the Blues depth is so strong that as long as the vital players are all healthy, a kid like Tank is almost a luxury and the team will soldier on without him until he's ready.
