Petr Sykora retires

Former member of the Devils, Ducks, Rangers, Oilers, Penguins and Wild Petr Sykora decided to retire after not receiving an NHL offer.

Source in Czech

Thanks for the memories I loved the Arnott, Elias, Sykora line back in the days...

his surprise 20 goal run for NJ a couple years ago was nice to see, a lou re-tred special that actually worked out, he kind of fell off near the end of the season/playoffs though.

Probably the only player to win a cup and never be able to lift it due to injury.

I remember that photo, I forgot who it was, it might've been Elias, who wore his jersey while he lifted the cup.

Yep, Patty wore it and then I believe Larry Robinson put it on afterwards.

I believe Patty and Arnott took the Cup to Sykora's hospital room after the game to celebrate with him there. I miss the A-Line so much.

He skated with the cup for the Pens, he missed game 7, but he was still able to celebrate.

He left some fond memories here in Pittsburgh, like when he finally scored a hat trick after having some insane amount of 2 goal games in his career. He was pumped, probably because no one would have to bring the stat up to him the next time he scored 2 in a game.

Came in here to post this. I remember the best part is he said during one of the ot intermissions that he was going to score the game winner. Not a Messier-level guarantee but impressive nonetheless.

It was almost better than Messier's, which was just a 50/50 guess. Sykora literally leaned over to Pierre between the benches and pointed to himself and said "I'm going to score the game winner." And he did.

I'm a Wings fan, but it was really a cool sports moment, at the end of a really, really epic game.

Almost, but Mess' was a guarantee on the road, gut-check game on the verge of elimination and he scored a hat trick to seal it. Pretty epic

It wasn't always smooth, but the memories are fond for Penguins fans. Enjoy retirement, Petr.

When the last thing you do for a team is injure your foot blocking a shot in the 6th game of the Stanley Cup Finals you're not going to be forgotten. It just sucks that he won the Cup twice, but wasn't able to play in either game...at least in the Pittsburgh one he was able to be in the arena for it...and he gets big bonus points for skating a lap with the Cup despite the fact that his foot was swollen so badly that they couldn't even fit his foot in the skate earlier.
