Can't go two days between games after a loss. It hurts too much

GKG, looking forward to our boring team!

Hope the Kings beat'em 2-1 or 1-0 and Quick has 12 saves.

Imo kings need to gain confidence and start finishing, hoping for a 4 to 1 win with Richards, Williams, Pearson and king scoring.

If we lose hopefully we'll at least win the Corsi, gotta take the positives out of every game.

This backlash against new ways of looking at the game is funny. Kinda like backlash from moneyball. Now everyone uses that.

Listen nobody (at least nobody that actually knows what they are talking about) thinks the game of hockey can be modeled as accurately as baseball and nobody says these things are the end all to be all. These are merely new ways of analyzing the game that can help ENHANCE the overall picture. They useful if used right.

I don't get it either, it's not like we're dominating a bad stat. Having great possession numbers is a good thing.

With Ovi 2nd to last in the league with a minus 31, let's hope he gets a ton of icetime.

Can't wait to hear what Penner has to tweet after the game tonight.

I actually don't mind Corsi at all, it's a new and interesting way to look at the game differently. I was just making a dumb joke.

My bad. Wasn't meant to attack your post directly, more just a commentary on how many people are attacking "advanced" stats so much.

In a nutshell, the advanced stats are thrown out the window in a results oriented business such as sports. They're a good measure of team performance, but when you see results like the Kings losses to the Ducks, Leafs and Coyotes after they outplayed them for a good chunk of the game, the mistakes this Kings team makes is magnified.

It kinda reminds me of what I do for work. Everyone thinks they know what will happen in a disaster based on computer generated models but all of that crap goes out the window when mother nature strikes. She doesn't really care about benchmarks and data points.

The problem is that you are looking at MUCH too small of sample sizes. Crosby didn't score one game I guess he is useless as well?

It's not to be used to model one game or even 5 games. There is always ups and downs. I think the point most people don't understand ABOUT "advanced" stats is that they are generally just "common" stats re-arranged in ways that, taking a large enough sample size, either reflect success in terms of how the player is used or reflect more accurately past stats in order to predict future success. That's why I put "advanced" in quotation marks all the time, they are just re-arranged "common" stats.

Are they really trying to make a headline out of Penner playing in LA?

The general idea is that the better your Corsi is the greater chance your team would be successful. It doesn't measure "how successful" your team should be. Are the Kings a successful team? In general terms? Yes. Can they and should they be more successful? You betcha!

I can count about more than a dozen losses this year where the Kings played well but somehow lost. I'd say half of them the Kings were completely dominant. How many wins have the Kings had where they played poorly this year? 4? 5? The Kings on the whole have generally played well for a majority of the season.
