It's too bad there won't be the walkway through the fan area for the players between the locker room and ice like at Rexall. Always seemed popular.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I always thought that was a really cool feature of Rexall. Hopefully the splendor of the new arena will make up for that loss.

I think I heard somewhere that the players and coaches hated it.

Of course those bums would hate it. It's been the "Walk of Shame" for the last decade.

There were a few players over the years that were publicly upset with things being said by the fans. MacTavish got face-to-face with a fan during this season too.

When the team was good it was always cool to see the players walk by cheering fans (2006 playoffs, for example).

They hated it because they were forced to look in the eyes with the fans that paid over $200 dollars (club seats) to watch them get rag dolled.

There were also claims from players back in the 2009 season that fans were spitting on some of the players.

It's good to get the fans closer to the players, but a walk past drunk and angry fans with potentially angry and emotional players presents many opportunities for unfortunate events.

I'd rather there be a small area open to Oilers' Kid Club members and so forth.

I don't support physical contact of any kind, but when you're paying $300 a pop for those tickets, you have every right to voice your opinion (WITHIN REASON, any further than "wow, that was garbage" or other game related things is too far).

Sadly, gotta keep the unwashed masses away from the rich and famous.

When the majority of those fans are drunk you can throw caution and reason to the wind. I don't blame the players for hating it.

Maybe stop overcarbonating the beer. The effects of which cause quicker inebriation. Stuff tastes like watered down horsepiss but packs a punch. People get more intoxicated than they expect on same amount consumed. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

They serve liquor as well. It probably has more to do with over consumption than over carbonation.

They don't call them Rexall heroin beers for nothing.

Yep, the beer is very intoxicating for what the alcohol % happens to be and it is the overcarbonation. Kind of like the champage effect. Theres so many bubbles in that stuff it hits you harder.

Any beer drinker at all can tell the Rexall stuff is highly carbonated.

The highballs don't have as much kick as they happen to use less spirits is my experience.

It has nothing to do with anyone's social or financial status.

It's simply a poor venue for fan/player interaction from either perspective.

They post security and rope the area off to create space for the players. It's all kids up front anyway. Can't see why they'd ruin one of the few good things they have going with the fans.

1 can of beer has more alcohol content than one shot of 40% hard liquor.

I dont have any links but I had to go to a professional once, and thats what he told me.

It's more of a math problem. One 8 ounce / 5% beer should contain the same amount of alcohol as one 1 ounce shot of 40% liquor.

Scroll up

Already a few incidents listed that suggest the reasons why.

Did you not see the part where it said players had been spit on? That's considered assault with a deadly weapon (I know, because I had a guy charged with it, when he spit in my face when I used to deal poker).

People need to stop feeling like their entitled to everything from a sports star just because of how much money they make. The time they are out actually playing the game is what our tickets go to, if they don't want to be bothered when that time is up, fine by me. I wouldn't want to have to walk back and forth between a bunch of drunken rednecks either.
