We are talking about an arena funded largely by tax dollars that will be home to an awful team charging hundreds of dollars to see them play. Maybe we should get the guy who was drawing those funny Oilers pics to draw us progress reports on the arena once in a while.

Meh. It's fine to spit. Spit at people as you will.
I don't think anyone minds that much.
Hell, set up a spit shine shoe polish stand in the new arena and go to town.

Much ado about nothing.

Thank you for the link, it offers a substitute, but also shows how spectacular Slicknitty's pictures were. In particular, the full size pictures were great!

Yep, the clarity was incredible in those pictures which is amazing considering what a large area they contained. The large images were spectacular, like being there.

Thanks slicknitty for all the efforts and putting up with us.

One of my favorite threads in a longtime.

cheers

I really would like to know why slick isn't taking picture anymore, but I've always been more interested in the story behind the scenes.

Probably has to do with building manager restricting access to the roof, he did mention it earlier in the thread that it might happen.

The story had already been told. A couple times in the past there was question around him continuing to be able to take pictures from the location due to alleged security, safety issues being that pictures afairc are being taken from a rooftop area from EPCOR tower. Pictures had previously ceased for times due to this deliberation. I would be surprised if the current situation is any different.

Another possibility that I think was raised is that some official sites, for instance the cited Rogers wanted more hits and might not want to have such great competing views of the construction. In which case Rogers should be providing similar great vantage and shots.

Would be nice to hear slicknitty comment directly if permitted. He may not be permitted.

One of Slicknitty's pics pinpointed the new top secret Bat Cave entrance point...

So, I take it that the cameras will be set on the opposite side of ice from the benches like the rest of league? If so, too bad. Seeing the numbers of the players going out on the ice is far more preferable, imo.

Just noticed this note at the bottom of the live feed of the construction.

Quote:
stay up-to-date on Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton with the view from this construction camera.
Images are updated in real time to provide a fresh look at the jobsite. Stay tuned for more camera angles and additional features.
Perhaps they'll be setting up a camera in Slicknitty's spot? Those shots really were the best...

Who calls a 9 a.m. press conference on the roof of Edmonton's tallest building anyway? New Rogers Place downtown arena gathering.

Centre-hung Scoreboard will be the largest high-definition board in any arena in the world

Some of these features sound amazing!

I like the sheet, but you'd think the first fact would be an exact fact not a rough timeline.

Looking at how the seating appears to be set up, looks like this building will be plenty profitable.

Also, a lot better to see a game in. I'm looking forward to it.

Once the play is on I really have no issue with Rexall.

My biggest beef is that they don't serve beer in the washroom, because there is really no way you can do both unless you leave early.

Absolutely. Not enough is said about the inefficiency of service at Rexall place. There's no reason why buying two draft beers need to take so long. Have one person (or maybe more than one person!) pouring and another taking money. Keep the line going.

The concessions are even worse. Why do you give your order to the same person that retrieves all the items? The cashier should yell he needs a pretzel and the pretzel guy should just appear with one behind him. DMC makes Hortons look like they know what they're doing.
