His injuries have left him with limited joint mobility. A professional hockey career is in real jeapordy.

Blackburn is probably going to retire due to the injury issues.

The factor that will likely make him finally retire is the fact that he can get an insurance settlement on his pro contract if he goes now. If he tries to play another season, my understanding is that he won't qualify for the injury settlement. He tried playing last year with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL last year with a modified blocker on his glove hand, and not surprisingly it didn't work out all that well. I feel badly for the young guy, but he is clearly done.

I think the Rangers ruined this kid by rushing him along instead of leaving him in junior for another two years where he belonged. Putting 18 and 19 year olds between the pipes in the NHL rarely works out well, with this just being the latest example...

What complete and utter nonsense! The kid damaged a nerve lifting weights during the offseason. Because of the unique injury, the doctors were unable to locate the nerve in question. After removing some scar tissue a year later they eventually found it, but the damage was done. How the hell does that have anything to with the Rangers?

He also had alot of stress though from the Rangers, hoping to preform at such a young age, and he would probobly push his body to the max to get top results to start, the Rangers should of put him in the minors and developed him slowly, but looking back in the past is always 20/20.

Have suffering a severe hand injury, Dan was playing last season with 2 Blockers, as seen here:

It may work in the ECHL, but certainly he won't get a shot at the NHL level.

There's gotta be something negative about the Rangers we can say. Who cares if it's untrue.

No I actually like the Rangers, but you can't say the kid didn't have stress, he was thrown in at age 18, and he when your in New York your expected to perform. He was rushed no doubt about it.

I know how he injured because I started a thread a couple days back about Dan Blackburn in the Panthers forum if you check, but he was obviously was training for hockey, the Rangers didn't raise him right they rushed him like I said.

Ah so stress lead to a freak accident while lifting weights. Where are those straws? They were he a minute ago.

So if the Rangers had treated him properly he would not have been training for hockey?

No he would of been, but something went wrong, plain and simple, I'm a huge Blackburn fan, I have probobly 8 of his Rookie Cards, and I'm sad and mad for his career being over, but the Rangers should of developed him slower, even if it took 4 or 5 years to develop he would only be 22 or 23 when he entered the league.

The straws he alluded to are now gone because you grasped at them.

Make more sense?

I'm sorry but the theory that he was 'rushed' and 'stressed', and the notion that it had anything to do with his injury is bunk. I guess it's a flat out miracle Patrick Roy didn't permanently injure a nerve lifting weights during the offseason after leading Montreal to a Stanley Cup two years after being drafted.

Complete garbage.

You've never heard that expression before and you live in the state of New York? In North America, right?

Born in Dunkirk, New York moved to Florida 9 months into my life then spent 10 years there and have spent the last 6 years here, and I can honestly say I haven't heard that before, must be an older saying. Not saying anybody is old here
