BUF/EDM - Myers+ for 1st (#3 overall) 2014+

If Edmonton gets #3 overall this year, and you're pretty confident that one of the teams ahead of them take Ekblad, how does this proposal look:

1st 2014 (3rd overall)
3rd 2015

Myers
Stafford/Stewart

Just awful for Edmonton.

Any player they pick at 2nd or 3rd overall will have more value than Myers.

No way does Myers still hold that kind of value.

You should preface the OP with the Mackenzie bit.

I entirely disagree with the first few posts about Myers value. Mackenzie seems to share my sentiments, for whatever that's worth.

I also notice the 2 of you seem to be fans of West coast teams, meaning, perhaps you don't see Myers play very often.

How do you know? Seriously im interested in why that trade wouldnt happen. Since you seem to know Myers value really well, you must watch alot of his games. Can I get a report on how he has looked this season? Just trying to determine his value since you seem to know it.

No thanks, Myers is way to important to our rebuild. You cannot have an entire team of <25 and expect to be a contending playoff team.

As an Islanders fan I would do that deal if we have the 3rd pick

Yeah, I feel like it's always a race in this forum to call a proposal "terrible" without really putting any thought in to it.

EDM 1st=Ekblad <<<<<<<<<<<Myers

Such a deal isnt going to happen. It will have to a much larger deal that involves Eberle/Hall/Yakupov coming to Buffalo along with the 1st.

I disagree with that completely. While I respect the idea Myers being where he's at with his development is worth more than the 1st alone, I feel you're wildly exaggerating with all of your ">>>".

And the entire foundation of this deal is so that EDM doesn't need to move one of their big forwards.

1. His contract works perfectly for el cheapo(Wang) since it was front loaded

2. Any of the guys drafted probably won't make a major impact for 3-4 years if not longer

3. I always say Defensemen hit their stride at 25, I believe Myers would be like 24ish now

All that being said I could see Buffalo being hesitant making this deal for no other reason it will most likely devalue the Islanders pick next year. lol

With all due respect to Myers I wouldn't make this trade because I'd happily take Bennett, Reinhart, Draisaitl or Ritchie with our pick.

Buffalo isn't going to be tripping over themselves to make the Islanders better when we're (in all likelihood) getting their 1st next year anyway.

I wouldn't factor that in at all. 2015 is an unknown, and the effect this trade would have add even more variables. Not a safe bet.

We are filled with highly skilled wingers who lack size. I would deal one of them if need be so that we can add a Bennett or Reinhart. Instead of the pick what would your thoughts be of offering the same package for Yakupov or Eberle?

Yakupov definitely isn't getting Myers. On top of the actual question marks surrounding him, Murray is not a fan of Russians. Eberle for Myers has been beaten to death on this forum. 8 or 9 out of 10 Sabres fans say no. Eberle is soft and one-dimensional. Yeah, Buffalo needs scoring, but Myers is a more imactful player in more areas of the game.

I actually agree with Tsuji, if I am buffalo I am not making a deal that most likely would have a positive with the Islanders. Same reason why if Ehrhoff was on the market the Islanders offer would have to be significantly better then any other offer out there in order for them to trade for him

Yakupov is enticing, but I'd probably keep Myers. Also apparently I hate Russians or something.

I would be surprised if Myers could fetch a mid-1st round pick, let alone top 5.

Not interested in trading Myers for a draft pick.
