Morning line rushes March 21:st

Gaborik Kopitar Williams
Pearson Carter Toffoli
King Stoll Brown
Clifford Richards Lewis Nolan

Wow you're making too much sense Darryl, slow down! Glad Sutter is making adjustments to compensate for Richards sub-par play. I really like King with Stoll and the Carter line just looks like fun. Could use a playmaker in there but that's three guys with good hands.

Took 500 wins to figure things out.
King/Stoll/Brown is the perfect 3rd line. I still like Gaborik on the right side. I like Nolan more than Clifford.

The only logical answer, Richards has been awful and Stoll isn't a second line center.

I said it in the GDT, the biggest issue the Kings had going forward was getting Jeff Carter in a better situation. And I think realistically Sutter had two options, either load up on the first line with Carter there at RW or have Carter center the 2nd line. Looking at it now I am happy he made this decision, because you guys are right, neither Stoll or Richards are 2nd line centers right now, and if he loads up line one he has to play one of them as the 2nd line center and that is bad news.

I think Carter as the 2nd line center is something that is going to stick for a long time (beyond this season), especially if Gaborik is brought back.

Dean loves strength down the middle and he can pencil Kopitar and Carter as his top 2 centers for the foreseeable future and build the wingers from there.

Im not gonna make much of it because Sutter does change it up.

But good job Sutter, **** yes. Play like a fourth liner, play on the fourth line. Good.

Also, having Carter with Gaborik and Kopitar would have required Sutter to trust Brown-Richards-Williams to be a quality 2nd line, I don't think Sutter was willing to do that, and who can blame him.

Honestly, even though they've been playing well, would like to see those two lines mixed a little bit to give the second line a more veteran presence.

Sutter working the tumblers looking for the right combination.

He only has one option for the 1st pairing on defense though, and Doughty is playing like ass right now.

Richards playing on the fourth line against Florida.

Hope that finally wakes him up. I'm so disappointed in this guy this season.

As much as i like the new look lines posted above this is Sutter we re talking about whos lines last a couple periods at best. Lets face it he will never settle on a lineup and stick to it for more then a game or so. This is just the latest blinder outcome. Stay tuned for more lineup shuffling period to period.

Every coach does that. When do you ever see lineups not shuffled around? Typically you will see a pairs of players kept together (for instance Getzlaf and Perry and the Sedin twins) with an interchangeable forward on that line.

Let's not act like this is something that is uncommon in hockey.

I agree with you, but I think it's fair to question why certain players who have struggled mightily together are consistently sent out there. We are not talking about Getzlaf/Perry on the Kings.

I think Martinez deserves a look with Doughty at this point, he has earned it with his strong all around play the past few weeks, yet Sutter sticks with Muzzin (who I still do like) despite all his struggles.

Same thing with Carter and Richards, so many acted like the second they went back together it would be magic on ice, when in reality it has not been this season.

Stubbornly playing the same lines night after night even when they don't work isn't a good plan either. I actually think Sutter sticks with his lines better than most coaches, he's got a pretty good touch. Remember how Terry Murray would make changes just to make changes? Sutter at least seems to have purpose and thought behind his moves, whether you agree with them or not. He might juggle the lines a bit in the third period based on what he sees in game, some players might be tired or not giving their all and he'll have someone cover for them a shift or two, or there might be matchup issues and he'll move stuff around a bit.

Now where did i say this is a uncommon thing and i know that coaches mix it up to get people going but im willing to bet that sutter line up switches are in the most by a coach on a playoff team. he does them shift to shift not game to game like most coaches. He doesn't imo let them settle in to play with the line to develop chemistry. I will say that his apporach is going to have anyone use to playing with anyone which may come in handy in case of injurys. I just don't see the reason to be excited to see richards PRACTISING on the 4th line because we know it will change in a period or two.

that's totally a fair prediction to make, and one that i think we'd like to see happen, even, because that means richards will have gotten the message just from practicing on the fourth line that he needs to step it up. it's entirely possible that he'll come into the game totally hellbent on kicking ass, and get moved back up. you could even argue that that's sutter's whole rationale for doing it.

Well it can't get any worse can it.

Pearson is hard working, Toffoli is smart. I think they'd do fine.

Hey even if it doesn't last, putting Richards on the fourth line for more than ten minutes is a message, even if it's practice too.

True, but it does give Pearson and Toffoli an opportunity that if they grab it and find some chemistry with Carter, they could stick there for a bit.

As Herby pointed out, I don't think Richards is a player that Sutter sends out any more to protect a 1-goal lead late in a game. That task falls to guys like Kopitar and Stoll now.

I think everybody is down on Brown and Richards this season for all the right reasons.

Let's hope these two leaders can pick up their play down the stretch leading into the post season.

That is, if this team really wants to make it to the post season.
