I have no problem with Couts not getting much in terms of PP min yet. The team needs him in other areas, I'm sure he and the team don't care nearly as much as some on here if he's a 39 pt forward or a 49 pt forward as long as he's contributing to the team's success which he did, way more then most on the team.

Regardless he's 21, in time he'll get PP time.

Yeah, I think Downie only had like 1.5 minutes of PP time a game, but that's infinitely more than he needed to be getting.

I don't see how you can even slightly criticize this kid. He's put in a position to fail, and he still looks great on a nightly basis.
Can you link? I'd like a read.

If you look at any other 21 year olds in the league, look at their minutes, who they are paired against, and how many points they have, it would likely show just how good he is.

Yeah, but when Hubaadoooh scores at a similar pace getting way easier TOI and zone starts and more PP time etc, he's just showing his potential.
When Couts scores 40 pts he's a bust offensively.

Post 57 and 59 in this thread are good examples. The research was done by Protest and Curufinwe, not Appleyard. That was my mistake.

What I'm getting here, is that you think because Huberdeau scores similarly with easier ice time and more offensive zone starts, meaning couts has it harder and is doing just as well. so how is couts the bust there?

That's his point. He was talking about other HF board posters, the non Flyers fans.

Oh now I understand, disregard my previous post, if anything the fact that couts gets that much points with how he gets played, it shows just how much he could do if he wasn't constantly helping bad defense and on the penalty kill

Yep. He'll do a little of that next year, then take most of the burden in 2015-2016, when I expect the Flyers to become legitimate playoff contenders if Holmgren doesn't do anything stupid.

I think the biggest issue in that thread is that Phaneuf got a single vote for top 5 best D men.

Craig Mactavish (Oilers GM) getting a vote for top GM was a standout for me.

Yea. You would have thought if a person wanted to joke he would have put him in first.

In the 'real' voting he is looking a lock for top 7 as well.

After ~30/150 votes he has 6th place after:

Bergeron
Kopitar
Backes
Toews
Hossa

When was the last time a 20/21 year old (3rd season after draft) NHLer came top 10 in Selke voting?

Jordan Staal was 21 I think when he was a finalist. His 4th season though as his birthday was just prior to the cut off date for the '06 draft.

Yeh, I looked a few weeks back and:

J. Staal: 13th
O'Reilly: 14th
Toews: 17th
Couturier: 41st
Landeskog: 43rd

Were the only recent Selke votes I could find at all for players in their first 3 seasons after their draft year.

Yeah, Couturier has been playing his role magnificently. I don't care that he hasn't scored because he's been so good defensively he helps the team have a chance to win.

Couturier had a very disappointing series (among others). The turnovers were brutal and he could never seem to get going in the offensive zone.
