Teams that are definately NOT making the playoffs

Which teams would you be extremely suprised to see make the playoffs?

My list (In no particular order)
Washington
Carolina
Buffalo
Columbus

I'm tempted to put Phoenix in there too.

If you're saying "I predict that Pittsburgh will miss the playoffs" thats one thing but if you're saying "Pittsburgh is as bad as Washington or Buffalo" then you're flat out wrong.

I'd say the Rangers are a pretty safe bet to not make the playoffs...

Kings shouldn't be on this list. Why don't you explain why you think this?

Some very safe bets in the west to not make the playoffs-Anahiem (Cap), Edmonton, Los Angeles (Goltending).

Concur with this

The Kings are healthy, upgraded their goaltending and added Roenick ,Demitra, Bure and Conroy, the only realy loss is Palffy who only played 35 games last year and they only finished 8 points out.

I think those additions are worth 12-17 points in the standings...easy

They Kings goatending is better than it was last year and despite setting the injury record didn't miss the playoffs by much.

If we're going to blame goaltending and consider nothing else, add Columbus to the list.

How can anyone say NYI are 'definitely' not going to make the playoffs? One of only six teams to make the playoffs each of the last three years, offset every major loss except Kenny Jonsson with a major gain this offseason.

They very well might miss the playoffs if a lot of things go wrong and Satan and Yashin don't click, but to say they are 'definitely' going to miss is a joke.

As far as I'm concerned, the only teams definitely not making the playoffs in the entire NHL are Carolina, Washington, Buffalo and Chicago. All the rest have at least a tiny bit of hope.

Why is Phoenix on everybody's list. They are improved. They will make it or come very close.

Teams that definately won't:
Buffalo
Washington
Minnesota
Carolina

Do the folks saying Minnesota think they're worse off now than when they were in 02-03, or would you have said they were definitely not making the playoffs then, too?

(I don't think they've got a strong shot, but I always get a kick out of these "never" and "guaranteed" threads. )

Carolina (these guys are terrible. Stillman and Whitney are not the answer for this team)
Washington (they won't be down for long, but they'll suck this year)
Buffalo (Numminen won't offset the loss of Satan and Zhitnik)
Rangers (btm 3 team in the league)

Minnesota (NW is just too stacked... 32 games against some very tough competition)
St. Louis (just an ugly, ugly team. Btm 3 team with CAR & NYR, the difference is that STL is thin on prospects)

No. And, all three teams you mention are anything but safe bets to not make it. They're alot better than teams like Columbus and St.Louis.

My list:

Washington
New York Rangers
Carolina

St.Louis
Minnesota
Columbus

I'd say all three of these teams are virtual locks to make the playoffs as it stands... although you have a point about ANH & I'll reserve my judgement on them until they get their payroll down.

Don't think so:

New York Rangers (I'm sorry for the New Yorkers)
Washington Capitals (you guys did a GREAT job on the free market..)
Columbus Blue Jackets (sorry guys.. it's just not enough..)

Close call:

Buffalo Sabres (why not merge with the Capitals ?)
Florida Panthers (well.... I don't know... it's just... eh.. I just don't know..)
Chicago Blackhawks (maybe... just maybe...)
Pittsburgh Pinguins (one Crosby doesn't make spring)

St Louis hasnt missed the playoffs in 25 years. To say they deff. wont make it is sorta jumping the gun.

Putting Edmonton on the list might be premature, but I have my doubts about Conklin and Markannen being solid enough to get a team to the playoffs.

Anahiems situtation might change with a few trades. Till then, I cant see that cap situation being easy to work around.

Los Angeles, im fairly sure about. Garon could be another Denis, but hes unproven, so its hard to tell what itll be like. Plus, its LA, so they'll lose 500+ Man Games to injury.

Buffalo?

Don't any of you know how much cap room this team is going to have. Teams are going to be stacked and and in need of trades and that's where Buffalo will come in.

This team should be fine...and for anyone to say they defenately WONT make the playoffs when they only missed by 4 points last year is wrong.

Personally I don't think they will make it...but I wouldn't have them on my list for the ones you defenately don't think will be there.

Our top prospect Vanek will compete in the top 5 for rookie of the year.
