No one. Grabner's 2 year /$9m deal or Bailey's remaining 4 years/$3.3m per, are probably the worst contracts.
The press says Bailey drew plenty of trade deadline interest. Even if the return was lousy, it would beat a buyout. And with the isles needing to spend $13m to reach the cap floor, I doubt Grabner is dumped.
Staple reported just before the TDL, that the isles had no interest in moving Grabner .
I don't think anyone although due to cap situation but I would love to use it on Cluttebuck who has 9M left in salary over the next 3 years just a bit above his 2.75M per cap hit..
I know we paid too much to get him (Nino) and then gave him too much money (four years, $2.75 million AAV), but why would we buyout Clutterbuck? He's a contributor on the team and need his caphit to meet the salary floor. I don't know about others, but I have no issues with Clutterbuck when I view him strictly as the player he is.
Too bad we can't use it on Bailey. It might be Carkner, he's the only one I can think of. Probably won't bother with only a season left.
We could waive Carkner. If somebody claims him, then we won't have to pay him. If nobody claims him, then we still have a warm body in the system who can be called up in an emergency but who isn't taking up a roster spot with the big club.
Why bother with any more amnesty buyouts? If you aren't spending to the cap ceiling they are worthless. It is arguable that the league asked Wang to buyout DiPi as a precursor to getting a half share of revenue sharing, that and trying to pretty the team up for a possible buyer in the next 5 years. Otherwise why do it?
Well, if we were close to the max cap then maybe Bailey's contract could have been a problem, but now it really isn't. Also I Think he is a good player to have on the team even if his point totals aren't anywhere near what everyone expects. But he's really not a bad player.
I would definitely use it on Carkner, don't want him back.
There is no way they are buying out Carkner. They would have to pay him 2/3rds of his contract. That's a million bucks and would only save them 500 thousand. They paid Martinek 500 thousand just to hang around and be a practice dummy. I doubt they would waive him either, at least not at the start of the season, but they could trade him at the draft.
