Often a meaningless stat, but Ghost's +4 seems about right.

Melrose says Gostisbehere at least once every 30 seconds.

I hope he doesn't start gagging soon.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but how are we gonna let this kid play? He won't be able to do the stuff he does now in the NHL, but his coaches let him do whatever he wants and it works well. He doesn't stop calling for the puck, he shoots and he shoots and he shoots, he carries the puck all the time when he's on the ice. He does whatever he wants and he's good at it. Do we let him just be him, how tight do we have to hold the leash?

This is from late last year but if anyone is interested in his background:

http://www.timesunion.com/sports/art...in-5006713.php

Quote:
Ask Gostisbehere about Appert's comments, and he says that he's humbled. He thanks his teammates, his coaches and his family — especially his family, because without a figure-skating sibling, a grandfather from Montreal and parents willing to travel North America, a Florida native stands little chance of becoming the next big thing in college hockey.

It all started with his older sister, Felicia, a former world-class figure skater who took lessons at the ice rink that had sprung up just 10 minutes from where the family lived. An ice rink in Florida? It's fairly commonplace now, and it was getting trendy with the arrival of the Florida Panthers in 1993, the same year Gostisbehere was born. Gostisbehere's grandfather, a Montreal native, was among the first to buy Panthers season tickets.

As a toddler, Gostisbehere would accompany his mom, Christine, to the rink for his sister's lessons, and it wasn't long before he started pointing to the kids playing hockey and asking to give it a try. His grandfather bought him his first skates.

"He basically took his first steps at the ice rink," his mother says.

By age 10, Gostisbehere was playing with a travel hockey team. And when you're playing travel hockey in Florida, you really travel. While school friends were playing Little League, the Gostisbehere family was making trips to Wisconsin, Chicago and other more traditional hockey territory.

After his sophomore year of high school Gostisbehere left Florida, which is virtually bereft of high school hockey programs, to play at South Kent, a prep school in Connecticut. Because undersized Floridians aren't exactly magnets for college hockey coaches, Union was one of the few schools to recruit him. "I was a late bloomer," Gostisbehere says. "I wasn't big. I had to grow into my body a bit. But I love when people take chances on the small guys."
Quote:
Whenever he does turn pro, Gostisbehere is hardly too small to play in an NHL that's evolving into a speed-oriented league. He's naturally gifted offensively, a hand-eye coordination that might be genetic; his dad, Regis, was a professional Jai alai player. At Union, Gostisbehere plays for a defense-oriented program that's taught him responsibility in his own zone, he says.

I think he's going to need some time in the AHL to refine his game. He won't be able to get away with that stuff in the NHL.

His game will settle down once he starts playing with better players. No disrespect to Union, but he is the most talented guy on the team and it isn't even close, so he feels he has to make every play. I like it. It's easier to pull the reins in, than the other way around.
