#72|New York Islanders @ Carolina Hurricanes | March 25th 7:00 PM | F/W 5-4

Preview

All time series record: The Hurricanes lead 61-50-9. Islanders all time @ Hurricanes are 24-31-5

The increasing likelihood of missing the postseason isn't keeping the Carolina Hurricanes from putting in playoff-worthy effort.

But that's something they've done all season when playing the New York Islanders, against whom they'll try for their seventh straight victory while seeking a four-game sweep of the season series Tuesday night.

With a nine-point hole and four teams to pass, the Hurricanes (31-31-9) have started to discuss their remaining 11 games as the likely end to their season, though they haven't quit.

Ward is 17-3-3 with a 2.41 GAA in his career against the Islanders while Khudobin has faced them once, a 3-2 road victory in which he made 38 saves in the last meeting Jan. 4.

Jordan Staal scored in that game and has five goals and three assists in his last seven against the Islanders.

While New York's Evgeni Nabokov lost that meeting and his previous two against Carolina, he helped the Islanders (27-35-9) to a 2-0 win over Columbus on Sunday with 41 saves.

Cal Clutterbuck has three goals in five games after scoring seven in his first 60 this season.

So tonight we get a look at our starting goalie for 2014-2015?

It is amazing we can't beat this team..I think we have better talent but they are bigger and stronger and we usually give up a soft goal and can't muster one ourselves we are always just short.

I either want us to run out the season with wins or lose them all. Be great for the confidence of the young guns and maybe it makes the choice of giving the Sabres the pick this year easier.

Like a lot of teams that wind up beating us, we look better than them for long stretches of the game but teams with veteran players just hang in there and don't stop working, keep plugging. That is the key to getting into position to win, and what the Isles do not do when they are playing poorly.
A typical Canes game they are looking slow and sluggish but later in the second period or early 3rd their continued work will pay off.
This team needs to learn to do that in games they are not going well to start.

I will vomit uncontrollably if Snow trades for Ward, what a horrendous move that would be.

My favorite NHL arena. They honor me by having my name on the ice and the boards. The good folks of Raleigh know that the good name of Rex stands for greatness.

Not gonna hijack the thread with "Ward to Isles" talk but doesn't that just seem like a perfect Snow/Wang move...bloated contract for an average player to get us to the cap floor.

On a side note, would like to lose this one 5-4 with (Lee, Strome, Nelson and DeHAAN all 4 goals) HAHA

I'll be at this one, hopefully we have a good showing since I don't get to see my team live very often. Won't mind if we lose but I can't stand listening to hurricane fans talk **** after they win either. Hard to take fans seriously that celebrate "redneck hockey"

Carolina games are the worst.

Not sure why I find them so boring, but I prefer the Devils over the Canes.

I don't understand why you don't go back to Nabby, despite needing to see how Nilsson will be you still should put the best team on the ice to win.

It's an epic battle by the 2 worst goalies that beat the Jets in the last 2 weeks by an identical 3-2 scores...except Anders had 2 more saves! Lol

We are missing 3 more forwards? How are we not calling someone up?

The 2nd tweet says "same line up". Maybe they skipped the practice.

"@StapeNewsday: No Okposo, no Martin on for #Isles AM skate."
"@StapeNewsday: Nilsson in goal, same lineup for #Isles."

I guess this will be a good game to size up potential goaltending, since with Nilsson in net we know to keep our expectations low and just hope that we don't get blown out. Maybe Ward will show us he's worth going after.
Also, I'm looking forward to seeing how Churchy plays, last game he was very aggressive in closing the gaps between him and his man. He was pretty confident.

There's no way we win this game.

So we will win it.

Wonder what the asking price for Jeff Skinner would be? If the isles get anything from the Canes, I would want it to be him

I know other feel differently, but I was very happy to see how genuinely happy he was to be an Isle in his intermission interview. Very small sample size, but he was much better in his 2nd game than his 1st which is to be expected. I'm definitely rooting for him.

As long as he plays like Church-Man, not Church mouse. I like his skating, he already looks better than Donovan.
