Panthers & Mogilny CLOSE

Rumours of Alex Mogilny heading to the Florida Panthers to join Gary Roberts and Joe Nieuwendyk continue to circulate. General manager Mike Keenan has about $15 million US in cap space remaining, one of the few teams that can afford the $3 million to $4 million Mogilny reportedly is seeking.

The Panthers have no one to play right wing and sun-seeker Mogilny wouldn't mind being in a good climate in a community where many Russian born players have settled. But the state of his surgically repaired hip has scared some other clubs off

http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hoc...75215-sun.html

I think those 3-4M$ a year figures are way off in todays NHL

I wouldnt be shocked if Mogilny signed for 2.25 (like roberts and niewy) and an 2 year deal but with incenvities too (goals scored, points)

Posted this new topic as the old Mogilny thread has been hijacked

I hope your right with the 2.25 per a season, although I wouldn't mind paying him 3 million but 4 million is alot.

3 or 4 million for Mogilny is a severe overpayment at his age and physical condition.

I'd think 2 million is much more reasonable.

If he came here I am sure ticket sales would go up and add Roberto signing before the arb. date.

"..the state of his surgically repaired hip has scared some other clubs off."

Am I the only one that doesn't lilke the sound of that?

I really don't understand why Keenan is going after so many veterans.

Nieuwendyk, Roberts, Gelinas and now Mogilny?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, Heimy. I wouldn't have taken this risk two weeks ago with other talent available but...well...we're desperate now

Well, we were the youngest team in the league for 2 years and last year we were second behind Buffalo. The vets Keenan is signing will help guide our young players and hopefully bring some consistency.

Don't forget Gratton. (He has nearly played 10 seasons)

I'm sure a physical would be a requirement under any deal - a very thorough physical, Heimster! You know, the kind that the Doc makes you "cough" extra hard!

That's a handful of trouble I don't think any team doctor wants to mess with.

I like the Newy, Roberts and Gelinas, I think you can put those three on a line and have great chemistry if you needed to, but the Rangers teams over the years should be proof enough that you can't just sign a bunch of free agents and expect the team to have great chemistry.

Looks like Mogilny signed with NJ for 2-year, $7-million deal.

Not gonna happen...the carrot just keeps gettin' dangled, don't it?

Still, too much to pay for a 36yo with questions regarding his fitness to play 82 games.

Plus their back-up Ahonen, Paul Martin, David Hale, and Colin White with a lil more than $3 million to spend. Elias might not be resigned until December with his Hepatitis (IIRC) depending on how his therapy is goin.
