Guess who will be back next season!

Let's put things into perspective. I hate Therrien as much as the next person, but how can Mr. Marc fire this guy?.

Therrien took us from the bottom to 2nd place in the Eastern Conference last season. This season, we can potentially finish as the 3rd best team in the East once again. A coach who has results like this does not get fired. Unless we are really really bad this playoffs, like getting swept in the 1st round and getting out-coached badly, then I honestly see Therrien behind the bench again next year. I hate that idea, but it just seems like the most likely scenario.

I guess even more surprising is how well we are doing despite Therrien. Obviously some hockey guys do not see it this way, and individual statistics speak for themselves (career-low seasons for Eller, Plekanec, Briere.. etc) but our defensive game has greatly improved and we seem like a team better built for the playoffs this season then we did last.

Pittsburgh had no problem firing this guy after reaching the SC Finals. We get another 4-1 playoff dump on our chest, and he should be let go.

They fired him the season after, during the season. Not during summer.

Exactly. They fired him the very next season after reaching the SC Finals.

I thought you meant he was let go directly after losing in the SC. My bad then.

I'm ok with MT staying, as long as Lefebvre gets the boot in favor of the return of Guy Boucher in Hamilton. Lefebvre should just go do his homeworks as a CHL coach.

It is a tough call. Question is does Therrien end up making Subban better by playing head games, does he make the team better by making the other guys make up for Murray while Murray stops other teams from hitting the zone at speed, head down? Tough call. He doesn't look that smart but you never know.

If Therrien gets owned by other coaches in the playoffs as per usual then he, at the least, should not finish next regular season as habs coach depending on who is and who becomes available.

I don't know what to do if it is not obvious to everyone that he is outcoached in the playoffs, I don't think the situation has ever come up.

I'm not funny, am I? Sigh...

Montreal misses the playoffs if Price isn't a top 5 goalie this year. Mtl is a less explosive offensively as bad defensive version of Toronto.

Mtl has heavily relied on Price, the PK and early in the season, the PP.

MT ultimate test is how Subban, Gallagher, Tinner, Beauliue and especially Galchenyuk progress. If all regress or stagnate like they have this year, MT must go for the future of the franchise

And if we win just one measly playoff game against an injury laden, rookie led core of the Ottawa Senators - what then?

Therrien has the tactical acumen of a doorknob.

On the other hand, I'm sure every fanbase hates their coach too. So maybe we ARE being too hard. With Therrien I say we treat him like we treated Price: I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you've gotten us this far, but you better perform in the playoffs.

For all the criticisms Therrien gets (and I've said my fair share), the teams with the best regular season records in the NHL since the 2012 lockout are:

1) Chicago (78-23-20)
2) Pittsburgh (82-33-5)
3) Anaheim (76-30-13)
4) Boston (77-31-12)
5) St. Louis (78-33-9)
6) San Jose (72-34-16)
7) Montreal (70-40-12)

One of two things needs to happen for mt to get canned.

1. MT does not come close to meeting the on ice performance objectives

2. The team quits on him.

MT will have some heat if the team has another early exit this year, but that won't be enough for a summer firing.

#2 simply has not happened.

I agree. No way he will be fired with the record he has in two seasons.

Agreed.

They came close to giving up during the putrid slump but they got their stuff together after the Olympic break.

Can't say I'm happy that Therrien has a lifeline but he managed, somehow, to not get fired over the regular season.

Let's see how we do in the playoffs now.

I actually don't mind Therrien that much.

It just pisses me off that he makes stupid lineup decisions and that our youth seems to be developing badly under him.

I would prefer Jacques Martin to him, though.
