I still want to keep Eller over Desharnais, wee David will disappear once again. A team is not a SC team with him on it, it's just not.

But yeah, half this board would sign him for 4x4M, right?
He probably will be traded in the offseason and I wouldn't be surprised to see him perform better on a team that will make use of his talent better. With linemates not named Bourque for an extended period of time (20+ games or so) and powerplay time to develop his offensive game would have been good for himself and the Habs. Personally, I hope the Habs offer him at least a short term contract (1-2 yrs) and give him a final opportunity to prove his worth.

Why not? The problem is more like DD+Gio+Briere+Gallagher. Change two of these by bigger guys and we're good, IMO.

He's to small, stick a stick between his legs lift 2 inches and he's stuck. Playoffs are a different beast as far as reffing, I truly wish that wasn't so, but it is.

Man... DD never gets any respect.

Eller never potted 20 goals in his pro career... He never will.

I'm not worried about Eller.

We've got some skilled wingers in the pipeline and that will help Eller big time. When players like the 'ghetto or Reway or Hudon make it the big show, Eller will look better and then you'll move onto other topics.

Our only choices are as follows..

1) Move Eller to the wing
2) Keep Chucky on the wing..
3) Trade one of DD, Pleks or Eller

Are we seriously talking about keeping Eller as a 4th line centermen? Don't people want to see Chucky play down the middle.

If Eller is our 4th line center, I'd rather see him traded and get back something useful. If he doesn't get us any value back then I guess he gets misused on the 4th line.

Trade him to Chicago or St Louis please, so I watch a team actually develop him for a change.

Galchenyuk was drafted to be our offensive player and yet everyone wants him to center the 3rd line...seems logical to draft a player known for play making and offensive upside to force him into a defensive role.

But Eller is a bust, just leads the team in hits (which means he isn't physical), an excellent face-off man (useless talent), has no hockey sense (you can see he skates around asking where to go constantly).

Not like the team went from aggressive on the forecheck (2 men deep) to a passive trap or anything.

If find it funny that people talk about the 'development' of a 25 years old guy...

If I had it my way, I would keep Chucky as a winger and keep a DD-Plek-Eller top 3 C.

But if we keep Chucky on the wing, people are going to think we aren't using him right because they see how much Seguin's game improved. If we move Chucky to the 2nd line C position, then we aren't going to be using Eller right. I don't see the issue keeping Plekanec as the 3rd line C and given bigger defensive responsibilities. Face it... DD is our #1 C until Chucky gets better.

We have three centers who can play top 9 roles going forward. That's not exactly a logjam knowing our luck with injuries.

I'd keep Galchenyuk at wing for next season, with Eller pivoting the third line. If Pleky/DD get hurt, we still have three excellent center down the middle.

Players don't peak at 25 years old.. there's always time to improve and develop until you hit that peak. Seems players hit their peak at 26-27. Even after that, they can still learn from experience.

But you are right in the sense that he's not going to be a completely different player then he is now.

Great! Eller should be first line center by the time he's 40!

Get real, guys, he's not developing anymore. What you see now is what you get.

53% faceoffs and defensive upside suggests we should try really hard to make him a C.

He's not great as winger but to be fair rarely plays it. I like him at C for now and I'm in no hurry to convert galchenyuk.

Yeah because you know players stop developing at the age of 25 years old, especially when they're european...

Look at Alex Steen, starting to play like a first line player at the age of 30. Hell look at guys like Sheppard (13 pts in his last 17 games) or Tommy Wingels/Nick Bonino/Andrew Cogliano.

Anyway, putting Eller on the wing would be stupid because a) he's shown in the past that he's not as good of a player on the wing b) he's defensively sound c) he's our best center at faceoffs d) he's our biggest center by far.

I agree he has a great skill set but and is very fast but he has looked lost as of late. In the playoff in wouldn't mind seeing him on RW with chucky centering and gally on the wing

Eller is horrible as a winger. Trade him to a team that values puck possession if we don't want to have a defense-first third line.

He's actually been playing well lately.

Let's not forget Clarke MacArthur who didn't start putting it together until he was 26 years old.

Nothing wrong with this guy that a new coach wouldn't cure. His biggest problem is MT.

Yep that's what they say about Price also.....
Pacioretty went back to the minors at 23.....
Hell, Desharnais wasn't even in anybody's plan at 24...

Ohhh....let me think for once second.....did he not get 10 pounds each 2 summers?
Putting a tons of muscle on his frame....started to play a more physical game....a more of a 2way game.

Getting all that together is harder than....let say just pass the puck.

When a players gets a tons on his frame, it's normal to take a while to get used to it....happens to many players....happened to Price...also happened to Subban 2 years ago.

Eller won't be a 1st liner....at best he'll turned into a more physical , less talented Plekanec in 1 or 2 years from now.

Just like Pacioretty, Price and a couple of others.....he had to grew in the NHL not the AHL.....less ice-time, less development....was brought up too early, takes longer to develop.

That was the MO of the last management we had.....bringts the kids too early and scrap their development.

I agree but Eller also needs to shoulder some of the blame. He hasn't had a very good season on offense but considering his wingers for most of the season and a lack of PP time that's not surprising. He's the Habs biggest center and fills a role for the Habs on the 3rd line and he'll likely be more valuable to the Habs than anything they would get back in any trade for him right now.

Sure, I'd agree with this. He hasn't played as well as he could even if he has been thrown under the bus.

My main problem with this situation though is that the coach has done everything he could to make him fail. And we are wasting this guy. He'll never be a number one but with a different coach I think we'd have seen a breakout season from him this year.

I've been thinking this forever! I think Eller could be a real good winger, or an average center.
