I think that it would be a bad idea for florida to get rid of Van Ryn, eventhough I really like Redden. I think if the panthers were able to offer a few prospects (besides stewart and olez) and/or a few picks then it would be definately worth it. If however they do have to trade Van Ryn to get Redden I would like to see something that most people would call insane or say that it would never happen in a trade that looked something like this.
Nederost or Kolnik
3rd or 4th Round Pick
You're right, it'd never happen. Spezza could get that alone, and it would still be underpaying. The pick would have to be a first, and it would be Mezei or someone instead of Kiwi. Kiwi's got no real trade value.
Anyway...I predict the next Panther move is to sign Mark Messier (yes, ANOTHER center). I just read a Slam! article about how he still has neither committed to retiring, nor committed to signing with either the Rangers or Oilers. You just know Iron Mike is sniffin' around seeing if Mess needs a new south Florida vacation/retirement home.
The Senators aren't trying to trade Wade Redden -- they're trying to keep him."
Internet and published reports that said the defenceman was on the trading block were described as ''stupid'' by an NHL source yesterday. And Redden confirmed last night that the Senators have approached his agent, Don Meehan, about a contract extension.
Redden will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season, but the Sens have already talked about contract extensions with Redden and defenceman Zdeno Chara. Whether they sign is another story, but nobody is on the verge of being dealt anytime soon.
''My preference is to stay in Ottawa,'' Redden said yesterday from Kelowna...
''I don't think there's anything to it. I want to stay in Ottawa.''
