Least surprising news ever. But I think that Nolan has been able to keep locker room morale relatively high compared to the Rolston era. That's about the best we can ask for with this terrible roster.

Not surprised. It was already a guarantee he would be back, I don't believe for a second that part of the GM job would be that he could pick his own coach. When we hired a GM he was told Nolan was the coach.

I'm not a big overall fan of Nolan. But, the level of effort this horrendous team has maintained is a credit to him and what the players think of him.

I think he will be fine leading this team through the rebuild.

The major questions will be:
1. Is he the right guy to transition from rebuild/effort... to a high level of play and winning.
2. Will he be able to bring in the right assistants to help him with that, and will he be able to acknowledge the need for a more qualified X/O guys to build something for what should be a very talented team

President of LHF(Latvian hockey federation) has already stated that we won't have Ted as our coach for the next season so the bond with the Latvian team will be broken.

Hopefully Girgs get the C

It's fun to make up stories. The best ones have zero facts backing them up. I like those.

Tell it again Layne.

This is so ridiculous. It was silly when LaFontaine was here, but now there's not even a rational basis for it.

I think he'll surprise people in the rebuild. I don't think next season but the season after when we have our high end picks from the past playing for the club and also the ones in 14' and 15' (mcdavid/eichel and reinhart/bennett plus another) he'll really surprise people with his coaching. Bring in a couple veterans, and I honestly think he can take us to the playoffs as a wild card spot. He's shown he can do some real good things as a Coach - players also love playing for this guy.

I say that he's gonna surprise people b/c I see a lot of posts on here saying that he's good for the rebuild for a few years but when the team's "competitive" that he's probably not the right guy...I just think we should wait and see, and I truly believe you'll be surprised.

Good with this for the net couple years. Hopefully Ted gets lashed up with more help and the blend is right after that. If not, I'm confident Murray will make a change.

The thing about appointing the captain of the Titanic is that you know exactly what's happening to those deck chairs no matter what he does.

Hard to get excited when I want him to fail for at least 1 more year.

I guess Nolan is fine for the next couple years. The team stinks but if he can keep them motivated and working hard then the fans should have enough reason to buy tickets or watch.

I just hope that when it comes time to compete in the playoffs, there are competent assistants added or a new HC that knows how to gameplan and manage in-game.

Meh. The only thing I'll be interested in is if he makes it to the end of that three years or not.

Pat Lafontaine gets hired
Pat Lafontaine brings in Ted Nolan to coach
Pat Lafontaine brings in Tim Murray as GM
Pat Lafontaine loses power struggle
Pat Lafontaine leaves the organization
Pat Lafontaine's ghost forces the winners of the power struggle to keep the coach that he personally chose

brilliant.

100% this... the guy can coach, with a great team or a horrendous one. He deserves this chance in Buffalo, and I think he'll make the most of it.

Congratulations Teddy, I was hoping things would work out.. Now let’s hope the roster can grow and mature for a playoff run in your second or third contract year…

Great for Nolan. Hope he does well while he's here.

Either I'm blind, or they haven't released terms yet, correct?

3 years. Dollar amount is rarely ever released for coaches.

The furthest I would go is to surmise that there may have been some organizational pressure on Murray to extend Nolan after Lafontaine's abrupt and somewhat dramatic departure.
