Playoffs 1st Round

Was wondering if the Flyers should lose a few games to get the top wildcard seed and play the Pens in the 1st round or do the Flyers try and get home ice against the Rangers? Its still possible with 2 games in hand.
I have a feeling Rangers with home ice will be the Flyers demise...Flyers haven't won in MSG in 8 straight games.

I don't think that's a good idea at all. Lose on purpose?

TRY to lose? This isn't the Sixers thread is it? No thanks on that. I understand the idea but I'd rather not go into the playoffs losing games.

The dream:

Flyers v Rangers 1st round

Penguins v Flyers 2nd round

Montreal v Flyers 3rd round (Boston would be fun... but I don't fancy it, and Flyers Montreal is always fun as well!)

Blackhawks or Kings v Flyers final... Flyers win.

I've got a pretty strong feeling about the Calfornia teams. I think either the Ducks or Sharks will be competing for the cup this season

Yeh, I think the Sharks could... and I would not begrudge them, a lot of likable players who I would be happy to see raise a cup. (I also had a Sharks lunchbox age 9... they were my 2nd team for a few years.)

That being said if the Flyers somehow (aint gona happen) won I would want it to be vs the Kings or Blackhawks... it would feel that much better vs either of them!

I'd rather them keep winning and hoping Rangers drop the ball for home ice. I also believe the Flyers will perform better than the Rangers in the playoffs.

Berube to the team: "Hey guys, you aren't good enough to beat the Rangers in New York so I want you guys to lose on purpose so we don't have to play them."

Sounds like a real confidence booster for the team.

I'm not worried about the whole "can't win in New York". Playoffs are a new ball game and any team can make an impact. All you need to do is win one is MSG and you get home ice advantage back for your team. Flyers also have played New York in our house pretty well as well.

I don't like the depth up front behind Getzlaf & Perry enough plus the Fowler injury is a concern when it comes to Anaheim.

I like San Jose better but I feel like this is said every year & they always fall short.

The west is kind of up for grabs right now heading into the final stretch, most of the top teams are catching major injuries or are hobbling in right now except for LA of course.

If you're going to be Cup contenders, you have to have confidence that you can beat any team that gets put in front of you.

I'd rather play the Penguins on their ice or the Rangers on our ice than play the Rangers on theirs. That's understood, but we control our own destiny at this point. Win out and we get home ice against the Rags.

Trying to get the Pens while risking no playoffs, or even a date with Boston, is a remarkably dumb thing to do at this point.

G wakes up in the playoffs. He's the big game hunter of the east, and I'd honestly be okay with any scenario. Let's see what happens. They wrote us off this year because of last year, and they still write us off despite our season since 1-7.

Let's finish this out, see what we draw, and prepare to kick some ass.

We have...

@STL
CBJ
@BOS
BUF
@FLA
@TBL
@PIT
CAR

16 possible points remain, and if we win out (as unlikely as that is), we are guaranteed to finish at least two points ahead of the Rangers at 102 on the year.

Rags have...

@VAN
@COL
OTT
CAR
BUF
@MTL

So Rags have 3 easy games left for 6 points. We have 3 easy games left for 6 points.

We need to make up ground in the big games of BOS, PIT, TBL, and STL. Rags have VAN, COL, and MTL.

Who's to say the Flyers won't finish ahead of the Rangers anyway?

New York's schedule is easier, but the Flyers have more games left.

not really

remember 2010? We avoided some pretty bad match-ups on our way to the finals

Im not saying there aren't favorable matchups, but no team should lose games in order to draw a different opponent. That's cowardly. You play who you get matched up with and you give it your all.

If it was something like they out coach us on their ice id more worried but they play us a certain way that frustrates us. That should be beatable when we have a full series and time to dedicate to beating them alone.

Best case scenario although not really possible would be us play cbj first round and win. Pens beat rags. We beat pens. Have mtl out of the atl and beat them. Rangers, Pens, Boston is a lot more difficult and most likely.

I have confidence in Flyers, whichever team they play. They seem like the are playing with a chip on their shoulder.

Plus, I'm just happy they are in the playoff hunt considering the disaster that was last season.

Nicely laid out. If the Rangers go 4-2, the Flyers only have to go 6-2 or 5-2-1 to pass them for 2nd. It's doable, we need the Rags to lose a couple.
