But it's our Swedish pair, Brodin-Folin! Sweden does nothing but produce great defensemen!

Just having a guy with a big shot would be awesome. Still think the NHL speed and strength is going to be a bit shocking, but hopefully he can ramp up quickly.

Umm...Fontaine? Undrafted College free agent signing. Casey Wellman was the FIRST one...not the last.

So since he is ineligible for the playoffs (granted if we hold on and get there) does these last remaining games count as the first season of his ELC?

And does he have to get in the games or just dress for the 9 game rule?

This season counts no matter what. All other teams were offering that, so the Wild had to as well. Gets him to his second contract sooner, so it's in his best interest.

The 9 game rule is for players from Juniors.

Just want to echo this. One of the biggest needs people have been seeing on this team is a big right handed D-man to play with Suter/Brodin. Granted, Folin is just a kid and hasn't proven anything, but he is much farther on the development path than Dumba.

I'm excited to see what Fletcher does this offseason and excited to see this kid for the end of this year and next.

A guy who can shoot through the net? Sounds good. Bro and Fo pairing would be hot but let's see him play on NHL level first.

I don't think he finds a way into an NHL game this year unless the Wild can lock up the 7th seed before a final game or two. Barring a rash injuries that is...

With that said, in my limited viewings of him I didn't see the skating aspect of his game that's been talked up a tad elsewhere. That will be the deciding factor if he can hang at the NHL level in my view. Didn't notice anything stand out in terms of hands either. His shot is certainly heavy though and the Wild, and system in general, really could use that skill set. Hopefully he can pan out.

All in all, cautiously optimistic. With NCAA free agents, it's more along the lines of free money. Hopefully they can get a regular NHLer out of Folin, middle pairing or bottom pairing; doesn't matter.

Flyer fans don't appear to be pleased on their board...

Maybe this is late breaking news, but has anyone made mention of the fact that Folin played alongside Ryan Suter's cousin at U-Mass Lowell (Jake Suter)? I find that kind of interesting.....

Fletcher playing the long game, only signed Suter to have an inside track on Folin!

Pretty excited about this kid solely because of how many Flyers fans are upset that they lost out on him. Has to be good if a handful of them are bashing the Wild, the org. and the state of Minnesota/its "livability". Don't sit down without a hemorrhoid donut, Flyers fans!

Big, strong, skates well, has a hard shot, put up good numbers in college...sounds like a good signing.

If anything, more Flyers fans are talking about this than Wild fans.

Reminds me of a certain other defenseman, name is something like Whea Sheber.

Awsome!

I have to say.. It's funny how people on the Phillyboard went from being "high on him" on one page of the discussion to saying "he is to slow" & "only good because he is playing against kids way younger then him" on the next.
