LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a multi-year entry-level contract with forward Shay Stephenson, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
Stephenson, 21, this past season collected 26 points (13-13=26) and 104 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Sundsvall Bobcats (SWE1), members of Sweden’s First Division. The 6-4, 200-pound native of Outlook, Saskathewan, selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh-round (198th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and by the Edmonton Oilers in the ninth-round (278th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, also played four seasons (2001-04) with the Red Deer Rebels (WHL) before joining Sundsvall last year.
Living here in Red Deer I have seen him play, and he does not really stand out as anything special, he has size and strength which can cause chaos infront of the net. his skills are not incredible, but he does have a hard shot and good work ethic. I guess managment saw something special in him, hopefully he can continue his progress in Manchester or Reading.
Shay Stephenson is the older brother of Coyotes prospect, Logan Stephenson (WHL-Tri-City Americans). He played junior in Red Deer. After that, he went onto Sweden. I'm sure he'll be in San Jose next month.
Are you sure it isn't a typo? Maybe it is Shayne Stevenson former Bruin, Lightning, Komet, Wildcat, Blizzard, Lumber King, Smoke, Prairie Dog (okay, I made that one up), Border Cat, Outlaw, Eagle center who also was a major roller hockey player for the Port Huron North Americans and the Toronto Torpedoes.
