Bob Cole, simply because I grew up listening to him in the 80s/90s and his voice makes me all fuzzy inside. Sure, he misidentifies player's, misses penalties, and he doesn't know why the referee blew the whistle half the time - but I don't care. Ohhh baby!

Cuthbert for me. You don't get any bias anti-Hab nonsense from him. I like Cole too since he says funny things whether by accident or on purpose. I had a huge laugh earlier in the season when he called Bournival, "Wonderball"

the Pierre Houde and Marc Denis tandem is pretty hard to beat if you can follow hockey in French. It's one of the main ways I stay in touch with my roots, living in the U.S.A.

we all know Pierre Houde is legendary, but special mention goes to Marc Denis who really came into his own as an articulate and intelligent sidekick to Pierre. I know I had my doubts after the Benoit Brunet experiment, but it turned out nicely.

...

then there's a huge GAP

...

then I guess... I like the voices of Bob Cole and Doc Emrick. They make it fun/nostalgic. As far as local crews go, I noticed that I like the Sharks team?

CBC should have let Bob Cole do the Habs-Rangers series. If some of the rumors are true that he is retiring at least let him do a Habs series about he retires! His voice is just legendary and although he might get some names wrong that voice!

It be interesting to see how many times he makes a mistake, whether getting a player wrong, not hearing the whistile, not noticing the penalty call etc..

Would be at least 10 mistakes that most commentators would not have the luxury to commit per game.

He does however have a great voice still... But to me, Bob Cole will always remain the Leafs play by play guy.

Back in the day when I started watching hockey, Dick Irvin was our boy. Bob was doing Leafs games... With the exception to certain playoff games, like the cup winning game in '93

Houde and Denis are my favourites in the biz currently.

I'm astonished at how often Cole is mentioned. You literally could not follow the game at all if you were just going on his play-by-play. He has been like that for many years too, it's not entirely down to his age.

joe beninati of the washington capitals calls a great game.

so does jack edwards

and if we're allowed to mention announcers from the past, one of the greatest was jim robson of the canucks

I'd have to go with Jim Hughson on the anglo side and Houde on the french side for play-by-play, they both bring that mix of enthusiasm and intelligence without trying to do too much that I like. Stephen Brunt would be my favorite all around sport writer/columnist/talking head for sports in Canada, bar none.

We agree on Hughson and Houde for play-by-play. As for analysts, there are more bad ones than good ones. Those who are both bad and biased are intolerable and I can't help wishing that the team they root for so openly is humiliated.

I've watched different english streams and i must say Pierre Houde is at the very least amongst the best of them. Great voice, iconic calls (ET LE BUUUT!) doesnt slip too often and has in-depth knowledge of the game.
