NHL on OLN

Wonder if the flyers will be featured more so than other teams? don't think the NHL would probably allow it but if they were would F/A be more inclined to play here because of the tv exposure even if it meant taking a little lower salary and gaining possible opportunites to make more money? just a thought a little bored

Would be extremely stupid and shortsighted of Comcast to show any sort of favoritism to their own team.

This is the best piece of news from the deal.

"Comcast will bring the NHL Network to cable systems in the United States, and provide on-demand game broadcasts and computer streaming of live games."

There isn't a smiley to show how happy I am. So I guess a lot of them will do.

Actually what I'm excited about is the prospect of HD games and the ability to watch them on On Demand. That seems to be the big advantage to being in Philly (or one of Comcasts 4 cable networks)

My biggest concern is that as a non-Comcast subscriber (I get DirecTV) am I going to get screwed when it comes to HD. I live in Chicago where we we can get the local Comcast Sportsnet on the dish. But what we can't get is the network's HD broadcasts, which are reserved right now only for Comcast subscribers.

I think ESPN really messed up and I hope Comcast can revitalize the game. There was an article on ESPN.com by John Buccigross that had some great ideas. Hopefully OLN and Comcast won't treat the NHL like a red-headed step child the way ESPN did. The last three paragraphs of this article are dead-on. I would LOVE to have "Hockey Night in America" God that sounds good...

I read in the paper the deal was with the OLN in the united states and does not cover OLN Canada.

I know in Philly if you have the dish you don't even get CSN, let alone CSNHD... so you should probably feel lucky you even get CSN.

OLN in the United States is the same OLN as you get in Canada. Their is no 2 or
3 different OLN channels you will get to see all the games on OLN in Canada too!
The link to say so is in the third paragraph. Thanx to Comcast which owns the
Flyers for making it possible though because if ESPN got the deal we would
not get it here

OLN Canada is not owned by Comcast, but a different company (the same company that owns TSN, I believe). OLN Canada won't be showing any NHL games as everything stands right now, and likely won't in the near future.

Games will be shown on OLN READ the link and please educate me by showing a
link otherwise that games will not be shown on OLN in Canada. OLN is not a
strictly Canadian channel it is a subsidiary owned by an American company
Comcast. Their is only one OLN channel and if you subscribe to a cable package
in Canada that has OLN then you will be lucky enough to get all the games thanx
to Comcast

Once again OLN in CANADA and OLN in the USA are different entities. I don't want to argue with you and I can not provide a link, but this is what I read in the Friday edition of the Hamilton Spectator. It said the the OLN in Canada will not be showing NHL games.

The NHL in Canada already had it's various broadcast packages set up with CBC/TSN/RDS/Sporsnet.

I read the same thing-that OLN does NOT have NHL broadcasting rights in Canada.

Ya Bettman said that the deal did not allow for games to be broadcasted in canada because TSN/Sportsnet/CBC own the rights to NHL in canada.

Mike Vaccaro, in today's (Sunday Aug. 21, 2005) New York Post, wrote a positive article about hockey fans and the OLN. Registration is necessary at www.NYPost.com.

Today's (Wednesday 8/24/05) NY Post mentions that Mike Emrick will be the lead play-by-play man on OLN games this season.

EDIT: It is in Andrew Marchand's column and he termed it "the network is expected to make Mike (Doc) Emrick its lead play-by-player, sources said."

Former Flyers' play-by-play man. Currently with the Devils. Did games on ESPN with Bill Clement, too, one of the best duos ever, IMHO. Heck, he even made Wikipedia. Here is their bio:

Here is additional info (though it is from 2001, it has background info):
