According to steiggy during the game last night, the pens have one of the best if not the best depth in the league.

I'll buy that to an extent. The problem is that they aren't actually playing them. They choose to play guys who should probably be in the ECHL.

Great Dejean article. Guy really has his finger on the pulse of the organization on this one. It's an up/down year. You can even see it in the players. It's crazy that all the good and all the bad are completely an off-set.

Dejean also brings up an interesting situation - the nonexistent energy level of making the playoffs. The players are just stoic and that is either good and bad. Columbus will have A LOT of energy. I would like this team to get hungry... but they just don't seem to do it.

There's no reason to buy that. Our forward depth is terrible compared to most teams. Yeah the Megna's and Gibbon's look good to us, but every team has a few Megna's. Plus, Steiggy was referring to the Kobasew's and Pyatt's of the world.

Eh maybe I'm looking at things with black and gold colored glasses a bit I guess, and I agree the Pyatt's and Kobasew's are more AHL players than NHL players. I do think the bottom 6 with guys like Sutter, Stempniak, Goc, Gibbons, Vitale, Megna, and Z can constitute a pretty good bottom 6 though. We just choose to play players other than those guys on most occasions.

Well that I agree with. His comment was absurd because he was trying to say how great the Pens depth is. If he said D specifically, that's one thing, but he was hinting at forward depth, which is atrocious.

Can someone ask Shelly if she's ever watched a hockey game, and if so, does she prefer the glow puck?

After seeing what unfolded last night with the Calgary reporter after Sedin got taken off the ice I will go easier on Shelly.

@KristenOdlandCH: "why go into the boards with your head down??"
Predictable hysteria ensued. (She took down the tweets).

I'm sure that women in the sports reporting world have a tough time being taken seriously by some members of the fan base. Male sports reporters say dumb things all the time, but unfortunately there is still a bias against women in this regard. Her comments didn't help the cause.

She did come up with a non-apology 45 minutes later:

Clearly I hadn't seen the severity of the injury on Sedin or a proper replay of the hit Byron laid out. Sorry for offending. Hope he is OK.
Edit: For some reason the screen caps won't post….

It took her a long time to answer that one... i'm pretty sure she had no idea what it was and had to look it up.

She clearly doesn't. I can't imagine what the response would have been had you dropped the word "lacrosse" in there.

I want to be really careful what I say here, but I have more of a problem when women, in referencing a sport like hockey, use words like "soft" to describe an athlete.

It's not like I don't have a problem with a dweeb like Rossi questioning a player's toughness, but I have an even bigger problem when a 110 pound woman does it.

Eh. On the radio last night Bourque was...dancing around it...but basically called the team's grit factor completely unacceptable with only Glass standing up to Chris Neil at any point. In the third, especially, when Neil was riding Maata around like a donkey, he was getting pretty mad about the lack of reaction from guys like Zolnierczyk, Sutter, Kobasew, Pyatt, etc. Adams got in Turris' face once, but that's not enough.

To me, that means much, much more from him than it would from Shelly. Though if Rossi has said it, it would still mean nothing.
