I said this same thing about mackinnon for subban earlier in the year, and i'll say the same thing now: It's no-brainer. Both Tavares and Mackinnon are generational talents. Subban is not. He may have won a Norris Trophy, but Tavares is on a whole other level, talent and team impact wise.

Most of these guys are forwards (#1 draft pick? I got nothin). You trade PK for a forward, even if it's Crosby himself, and who steps in to soak up the 25 minutes on the blueline?

That's the irreplaceable component that you lose if you trade a defenceman of PK's ability. No forward coming back the other way makes up for that. This isn't an EA Sports game where your forwards can hog the puck all game long and you don't need quality defencemen. The Penguins have even only managed to win one Cup in the Crosby+Malkin era. Every other Cup winner since 07 has had at least one if not two elite defenders as anchors:

07 Ducks Pronger+Niedermayer
08 Wings Lidstrom
10 Blackhawks Keith
11 Bruins Chara
12 Kings Doughty
13 Blackhawks Keith

When you get a D-man of this calibre, you just don't deal him. You build around him. I'm surprised and saddened this poll is actually running 'Yes' in the lead. I cannot grasp what people are thinking here.

I certainly wouldn't do these, and without a top end defence man, likely won't be going anywhere with the unbolded either.

I love Subban.. but my love for JT would be even stronger..

No brainer..

Unless Chucky has a nice season next year, we can't be certain he'll be a #1 center.

I'm surprised it's not the only answer.

You could do this poll with Stamkos and Crosby and some people would still say no.

Fixed

You don't trade 24 year old defensemen like Subban. You pray day and night that you get lucky enough to draft one.

I can't believe what I'm seeing. Subban is on his way to becoming the best D in the league.

And since this is unlikely to happen anyway, this poll makes me sad Cold dawg, cold.

We'd have a lot more cap space too. Obviously this is a little bit of a future lineup. Maybe Andrighetto there instead of Bournival. Also assuming Vanek re-signed.
That top 6 would probably be a lottery team.

There's this thing called defensive zone.

There's also this thing called penalty kill.

Tavares probably has one of the highest trade values in the entire league. I wouldn't trade Subban for many players but Tavares is definitely on that list.

Crosby, Stamkos, Toews, Tavares and MacKinnon Id definitely trade him straight up for.

he may become the best d in the league but Tavares may become the 2nd best player in the world. Wouldn't for Mackinnon though. He's good but I don't think he'll even reach Giroux level. He'll be closer to Duchene, Hall, Seguin in his prime.

The Oilers have been doing it for years. Surely we can do it too!
