No Local TV For Monday Night Games!!!

According to Larry Stewart's article in today's LA Times ... OLN will exclusively televise all Monday Games. NO LOCAL TV ON MONDAY NIGHTS!!! Usually this wouldn't be a big deal. Monday Nights aren't a normal night for the Kings to play (at least not at home), but this year for some reason, the Kings play 12 games on Monday and 6 of them are home games.

Mon 28 v Detroit Red Wings 7:30pm
Mon 19 @ Vancouver Canucks 7:00pm
Mon 26 v San Jose Sharks 7:30pm
Mon 2 v Dallas Stars 7:30pm
Mon 9 @ Anaheim Mighty Ducks 7:30pm
Mon 23 v Anaheim Mighty Ducks 7:30pm
Mon 30 @ Anaheim Mighty Ducks 7:30pm
Mon 13 @ San Jose Sharks 7:30pm
Mon 20 v Colorado Avalanche 7:30pm
Mon 27 @ Vancouver Canucks 7:00pm
Mon 3 v Vancouver Canucks 7:30pm
Mon 17 @ San Jose Sharks 7:30pm

Which may be the Kings game once in a while... but Local blackout will occur on Monday Nights, so if OLN doesn't have it, it won't be on TV that night.

I thought it was the opposite-- you won't get OLN kings games if it was locally broadcasted (ie OLN is subject to Local Blackout)?

So Monday night games cannot be shown on local television.

This is freaking stupid. OLN has some game I don't want to watch in the first place, so we miss out on twelve Kings games??

I dont think the games will be on Center Ice either. The way I understand it is that OLN gets complete national exclusivity on Monday's. That means that the game they choose is an exclusive national telecast... The entire country gets that game and no other national networks, or a team's local broadcaster can televise a game. So there wont be a game for Center Ice to show.

Is CI available now to order? I checked right after the lockout ended and they said I needed to wait before ordering it.

Corect corect corect. Dont worry everyone. If OLN is showing a Kings game on Monday night, we wont get their feed, we will get the FSN feed.

No, go and read the article! 1/7 of Center Ice just disappeared! I won't be renewing.

Gary Bettman said they would "fix it next season" by scheduling only 1 or 2 games on Monday nights. He said "they didn't know that would be in the TV contract when they made the schedule".

No FSW games on Monday nights. Period. And since all RSNs are in the same boat, no games will be available for Center Ice to show Monday nights either!

I don't think you read the article correctly

Bettman said that in future seasons, fewer games would be scheduled on Monday nights.

"Everyone should keep in mind that for this season, we did our schedule before we had this relationship," he said on a conference call.

Maybe. But wasn't the TSN contract tied to ESPN's? Also, OLN has a Canadian presence. So, you might get 1 CBC game.

I read that article in the morning. I'm hoping against hope that it was misstated. If they black out 12 Kings games (excepting the 1-2 that might be on OLN) I will be furious. Almost 15% of the season not televised because of this stupid agreement? It is unfathomable to me that the NHL would do something this stupid at a time when they are trying to get fans back to hockey. I have to believe there will be a firestorm of protest from the hardcore fans when this gets out.

I hope to God you're right, but if it was misstated, why was Bettman trying to do damage control already? I think the NHL just made a huge misstep--and they will hear about it in a big way, real fast.

It for one season.

Also remember that FSN doesn't carry every game anyway. I think the contract is for 70 games to be televised

What will hopefully happen is they carry the same number of games and the Monday night games are they are games they wouldn't have carried anyway.

According to the press release at TSN (TSN Article), Comcast will also be providing games on-demand and streaming online. So even if OLN isn't showing the Kings' game, you may be able to order it or watch it on your computer. We'll have to see how it really breaks down.

We may be panicking prematurely. I have NOT confirmed that this story is actually posted on variety.com, since it is a subscription site:

Quote:
By JOHN DEMPSEY variety.com

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League plans to create a Monday-night game of the week during the 2006-07 season for exclusive carriage by Comcast's Outdoor Life Network (OLN).

That revelation was one of the new wrinkles in the three-year deal that funneled the cable rights to NHL games to OLN. The game of the week won't begin in the 2005-06 season, the first year of the contract, because the NHL had already drawn up the schedule before concluding its negotiations with OLN.

The only exclusivity OLN will get this season for the 58 regular-season games it carries every Monday and Tuesday night is with the contests being covered by the network.

If OLN has New York vs. Boston, for example, the regional sports networks in those cities will not be allowed to carry the games. But any other non-OLN games being played on Monday and Tuesday will get carriage as usual on the sports regionals.

Oops. Nevermind. Apparently even the online games will be subject to blackout.
